I do and have not seen any unusual battery drain over the years,

Of course it does, or we would have found a way of generating free power. The question is by how much. If it uses say 5% of the battery in a 24 hour period, it's not a big deal.

People have their blue tooth switched on for all sorts of reasons, not just for this app.

OK, so I've been getting this disappearing message the last couple of days despite not being anywhere near anyone for more than 15 minutes at a time. So according to the various recent reports, and the NHS themselves I'm OK just to ignore this then as it's not generated via the app but by the underlying apple/google architecture?

Apparently the message generated by the app is different and also triggers a countdown clock for self-isolation.

Lots of people have Bluetooth on all the time, using it to connect to smart watches, wireless headphones & speakers, hands free calls whilst driving, fitness scales etc. It’s not draining batteries that much.
