                    Hi,
Can someone help me understand if my estate agent has acted illegally in sharing my contact details in relation to GDPR.
I am due to move out of our rented property and asked if the new tenants would like to take on our broadband so we could change it into their name. The new tenants then emailed us saying the estate agent had passed on our contact details (email address) to discuss the broadband. We never approved the sharing of our email address but the estate agent obviously passed it on regardless.

Is it illegal or in breach of contract to pass on my contact details without permission?
thanks

Your contract isn’t with the estate agent, it’s with the landlord, so no breach of contract.
Possible breach of GDPR. You can report to ICO if you want. If you go down this route, I would imagine they won’t want to transfer the broadband contract... so you may be cutting your nose to spite your face.0

You may have authorised passing on details where appropriate.
How much compensation will help you to move on?1

We are not bothered about the new tenants taking our broadband. I am bothered because the estate agency has acted immorally and probably illegally on a number of occasions1

Well, we don't know what else they've done, but this doesn't sound particularly illegal or immoral. Seems not unreasonable to assume that if you were transferring broadband then you'd be happy to swap contact details - not sure how you'd do it otherwise.2

Indeed, this is a shocking case of immorality that would make Peter Rachman blush. I thought the Grenfell residents had it bad, but a potential technical breach of GDPR is a step too far.4

You mean your in contract with your broadband provider and are trying to fob it off on the new tenant rather than pay the termination fees. The agent trying to be helpful gave them your email address as you can hardly expect them to be your go between and now your throwing a hissy fit ? Get a grip, if you didn’t want contact with new tenant why get the agent involved ?8

Imagine responding to a genuine question on on a money saving forum by bringing up Grenfell.10

This is genuinely illegible. You don’t put a space between the end of a sentence and a question mark. As such I can’t take your advice seriously, sorry ?rik111 said:You mean your in contract with your broadband provider and are trying to fob it off on the new tenant rather than pay the termination fees. Hang on a minute. You wanted the new tenants to "take over" your broadband contract, presumably to avoid paying termination fees.
Now you are upset that the estate agent has taken action to allow you to do that?
That's really unfair. Surely you weren't expecting the estate agent to sort out your broadband contract for you. Obviously, the new tenants are going to need your contact details if you want them to take over your contract.

Genuinely illegible? You put a space between the end of your sentence and the question mark at the end you buffoon! Nor should you even have put at question mark at the end of a statement...an exclamation mark or a full stop is what the majority of literate folks would do!stig22 said:
