You can make the bank transfer whilst at the dealer's premises.jonesMUFCforever said:

It could be a sign of financial pressures on the company.
Pay for that car by bank transfer today - get there tomorrow to pick up the car and find the premises locked up and empty - result = loss of money and car.
Pay by debit card result = chargeback your money back and go somewhere else for a car.
You'd obviously be limited by FP limits, or by telephone banking limits, unless you use CHAPS. I would expect CHAPS wouldn't be good enough as the payment isn't instant and the dealer wouldn't part with the car until they are certain it gets paid.1 -
I bought a car at a main dealer a few months ago, annoyingly they wouldn't take a debit card. I did a faster payment by app at the dealership, which had to be split into two given Nationwide's £10k limit. All went through in about ten minutes whilst paperwork being done, but there's a risk you could be sat there a couple of hours.1

I collected the car on a Sunday from main Audi Dealer Southport. Salesman said the finance personnel did not work weekends and he claimed he could not access their account to verify a payment on the day.colsten said:

I paid in advance, deposit by credit card and balance by BACS. Fortunately there were no issues on the day.

There is with First Direct. I had no issues paying the car dealer £28k with my First Direct debit card - though I had to call up FD in advance to make sure the transaction would go through. However FD told me the maximum you can pay in a single debit card transaction is £50k which is obviously more than enough for the average customer.jonesMUFCforever said:These days I do not think there is an upper limit on debit card transactions.
I think some of the above posters were mixing up Faster payment limits with debit card ones.0
