    Thanks SS

That's my worry too, I'm trying to slowly move it back to their accounts (now the overdrafts are clear) but the problem is that he relies too heavily on an overdraft, as if it's easy money there to spend and then it never catches up.
I just don't wanna lose our house...I'm too stressed with it all though, no wonder I'm sick. I just keep thinking if I get through this month or pay off this bill, then it'll be safe to start removing the scaffolding so to speak.

Neither of them use the internet much. Mum's a total Martin convert though, she's really trying. It's like me and her vs. my dad most of the time.

Have you tried emotional blackmail? Breaking down in tears in front of him telling him you can't cope anymore and it's him causing you the pain! ;)

He will only get into problems again if he doesn't learn. Like each of us here, we've all had to learn the hard way. Maybe he is having it easier because you are taking all the strain!

I've broken down several times, he just goes off in a sulk for weeks and says he might as well not bother working and rants.
I'm hoping the defaults will stop him getting into further trouble, he says he's learnt his lesson but I'm not convinced.

Is it fair for my mum to suffer though? I don't think it is

Just to record my small efforts for January. Need to focus on the positives...

    January Grocery Challenge - £336 / £390
    Make £5 a day in January - £367.57 / £150
    2008 Olympic Challenge: Silver - £367.57 made
Pay off £10k by Xmas 08 - £347 paid off

Not too bad, and we got the tax paid off too.

So spoke to Cap One - they want more info but seem to be happy that we're paying as much as we can afford.

Halifax, as expected, have said charges now go back on for seven months then it's DCA time.

But once Cap One are happy we have 51% acceptance again so I guess that's in our favour.

Just need to hear back from Egg now. Phew......

Still heard nothing from Egg  Got our statements back from Capital One today so I guess they'll be writing soon to decide if our figure is correct.

    Here's February's round up:
    February Grocery Challenge - £355 / £355
    Make £10 a day in January - £146.24 / £290
    2008 Olympic Challenge: Silver - £129.34 made
Pay off £10k by Xmas 08 - £224.68 paid off
    Savings for £10k - £641.59

Not looking too bad, £10 a day challenge went a bit pear-shaped this month though. Need to get the Savings up to £3.5k by September to clear the cards though so got a long way to go with that.

  • Hi Gemzie,

I have just read through your thread and just wanted to say that I think what you are doing is brilliant. I only wish I have known about this site a few years back as I think my situation may be entirely different now!

I am in 4th month of DMP with payplan (£60K) paying £787 a month. Don't get me wrong 50% of this is my debt and I need to sort that but through helping both my parents (they're divorced) out through financially difficulties I amounted and futher £30K so to speak in my name and as I stupidly should have expected they couldn't pay back and got themselves into messes again and left me with the bills in my name that they promised to pay back.

Anyhow, won't go on but it has resulted in me not being able to meet payments and subsequently having to go on a DMP. Not only that, I have met 'the one' so to speak in past 2 years and we want to buy a house etc and now having this debt over me is making me a little angry with parents.

Enough waffling....think I just vented a little there....very sorry. Just wanted to say I admire what you are doing, I know how hard it can be and it's not that easy to just wash your hands with.

Keep up the fantastic work! xx

Thanks SortingIt, I'm glad someone understands from this side of the fence so to speak.

Congrats on the moving forward with life too. There is life after debt :)
