No dogs allowed outside at Wetherspoons

So I visited Wetherspoons a few weeks back with with my other half and our dog, along with a friend of ours who joined us. We were out having some celebratory drinks, it was late-ish, around 8pm and we were wanting a bite to eat but nothing too expensive, so popped along to our local wetherspoons. We took a seat on one of the many outdoor tables at the front of the building, my OH went in to get some drinks and menus. After about 10 minutes and whilst deciding what to eat, we got approached by a staff member who very abruptly told us dogs were not allowed on the premises and that we had to drink up and leave. "But we're outside" we said. "It doesn't matter its policy".

Upon doing some research this is apparently a Wetherspoons policy and has been for a while, although clearly not enforced as I have always seen people with dogs outside our local one. In fact, we've sat there with him and had breakfast on several occasions without anyone batting an eyelid.

Just seems such a bizarre policy to me. Its outside, its a market square so dogs will walk in that area anyway when the place is shut. They give a big thumbs up to loud, mouthy, chavs and smelly alcoholics who haven't washed in months, but a fat no to a small well behaved jack russell.

It's probably a safety issue, people could be tripped over a dog or lead, plus I wouldn't want to be bothered by a dog whilst I was eating.
If there was a place where you teather an animal away from other patrons that would be fine, maybe contact 'spoons and suggest that

Clearly Weatherspoons prefer loud, mouthy chavs and smelly alcoholics to Jack Russells. So you need to find somewhere that prefers JRs to LMCs and SAs

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

We specifically check whether a place accepts dogs before we try to eat there (if we have the dogs - 2x Bichon Frise - with us). We never just assume.

You know what to do, take your business elsewhere, to somewhere that does allow you to have your dog sit with you outside.

Im a dog lover and owner but I would never dream of going to any pub with my dog unless it was perhaps a quiet country pub with a beer garden but certainly not a town center pub where people are eating. Also, if you allow a small Jack Russell at one table are you going to have to allow a large dog at another table?
I can’t see it matters what size the dog is if it’s well-behaved and staying put.
I’ve taken my bull terrier into dog friendly cafes and pubs for meals - he’s trained to stay put on a settle mat and not harass people,

Our local spoons regularly has people with dogs in the outside bit. Maybe it depends on the area - that one is a bit low rent,
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I'm surprised that you find it bizarre that they welcome people who spend money and don't welcome dog's who don't.

If they allow dogs, then they will allow small and big dogs that do behave and small and big dogs that don't.
It's bad enough they let children inside!

Might as well leave your dog at home then. Why contact 'spoons about that. Tethering your dog in a different place, what's the point?
