I'll join please, I probably can't post every day as work is getting really busy and we've lost people to job cuts so I'm pretty frazzled by the end of the day. But I will do my best to join in and keep up! And on the plus side, when I'm busy I don't tend to spend much so there's always a silver lining.5

Hi Mothernerd, put me down for October please, Ive found it really positive and its keeping me on track. Thanks

Hi @mothernerd 😊 can I join please? Been lurking on the September thread and feel that this would be a good challenge to join!5

Hi, can I join please?
Hopefully October is complete on a house and move- so I suspect budgeting will be all over the place. On the plus side I'm trying to finish all the food in the house so i don't have to move it, so food shopping should be minimal for the first 2weeks of the month.

Laying out my stall for the month:
O - charity shop purchases will not lose you a NSD. so 15 should be easy peasy. I am stocking up on hurricane lamp glass candles and jars and fairy (or furry) lights. There are masses out there at the minute.
U -take care of you -my pantry is full of pulses and soup mixes and tins and nice things. Will try and run 4 times a week.
T Try to live frugally, be mindful of every purchase. Going to try and only spend on Mon and Thurs when I am volunteering anyway.
W Winter is coming. Just washed all the fluffy sofa end throws, one of our volunteers has knitted gloves- will pick up a few pairs for a donation to the f/b, some lovely colours, hot water bottles have been deployed already, and will set the heating to come on via the timer. Going to get a new roof for winter and a bathroom that works with a shower and everything (I have saved up, it is all from savings and I can now afford it because of all the little odd things we do on this thread)
A Awesome. I will do one awesome thing every day.
R Routine. Urgh! I hate routine, October contains half term and 2 birthdays in our house. Can't go anywhere so everything seems to revolve around having to feed people. I have my daily list of things to decimate, most of which gets done and whatever is left is swept over to the next day. No pressure, but still, something goes off the list daily.
D No debts, but I o/p the mortgage, and have the kids regular savings accounts to top up, and a fund of £15k to draw on for house improvements. DH has an £8k EF (he will never spend it)
B Budgets set before the start of the month - £100 a week for everything except petrol.
O- Originality and a sense of humour will get us through- will hunt late season apples from the community orchard with the kids, and have a few autumn walks and visit the arboretum. Will take a flask and drink hot chocolate in a cold place. Thinking of half term activities. Wish we had a dog. Might investigate getting an old second hand one. We have not added to the family for a while.
U - change the way you think about things. I love the darkness outside and candles inside, I love the cold outside and the warm inside, I love short skirts and tights and boots, the shorter days and the long nights with big moons and duvets and AUTUMN! I need a new roof and a new bathroom this season, I have plans for boarding out the loft spaces and redecorating, and carpeting the stairs and bedrooms. I am full of plans, and I want to be finished with the top two floors by the Winter Solstice, and only be concerned with the ground floor in 2021.
N No limits. I am donating stuff via f/b and c/shops.
D December. - Not planning on meeting anyone or going anywhere. Can't plan right now and not going to get anyone's hopes up by even mentioning the possibility -I have asked the kids what they like most about it, and will make sure those bits happen. But the c/s is a great place for picking up bits and bobs for very few pence.

O - charity shop purchases will not lose you a NSD. I am going to try for 15 NSD’s really could do with a jumper or two, a black one for sure, so I will be charity shopping and trying to not get anything else…I need nothing else clothes wise for all of autumn and winter.U -take care of you – So this a biggie – I am heartbroken, and so need lots of this really. So...yoga, meditation, get out everyday (even if it is just to put the bin out), as well and do some writing. I think I might do Optimistic October (Action for Happiness)
T Try to live frugally, be mindful of every purchase. I really will try to do this!
W Winter is coming. I got some multi-vits to keep my immunity up, and the blankets are out. Cosy 😍
A Awesome. Right now, I think showing up everyday will be pretty awesome, I am starting a new Uni course and have a lot of new things to get my head around.
R Routine. Yes to this, apart from the weekend please, where I may need to fall apart a bit or just do what I feel. I am working and doing everything at home so the day starts with yoga and ends with mindfulness. Work / study in between, as well as keeping up on my homemade food. Writing debt free diary in the morning and updating here in the evening.
D Pay Debts first – this will be done on Friday or over the weekend, pay day on Friday, and I will be seeing how much of an overpayment I can make.
B Budgets set before the start of the month - This is all done, just need to stick to it!
O- Originality and a sense of humour will get us through- well, I really will try!
U - change the way you think about things. I need to try and let go of a lot of thoughts right now, they are just very noisy
N No limits. Lots of pondering to do for sure…going to see what happens here!
D December. I am planning little hampers; I have spiced plum liqueur, damson vodka and sloe gin on the go. That’s a good start, but will think about it more after my week at ‘online uni’ – I have 7 to make I think, and then a few other bits. Will set a proper budget for it this month.
Hope we have some fun!
3-month emergency fund (Cash ISA & PBs): £4744/ £6,000
Stocks and shares ISA: £1497

Only for this month, charity shop purchases/ donations will not lose you a NSD. Am aiming for 20 NSDs this month.
U You need to take care of you (especially if others depend on you). Will be doing meditation, going out for walks when possible, mindful colouring, reading, cross stitch, and wordsearch – these things help with my mental health. Keeping in contact with brother, sister, their families, uncle in Ireland.
T Try to live frugally, being mindful of every purchase. Will be trying my best.
W Winter is coming. You are going to get sick. Be prepared. Will be looking at what I can do.
A Awesome. Turtles are awesome. You are awesome. Will do.
R Routine. Will be making plans for my routine. Some will be make on a daily basis.
D Debts or savings should be paid first, you live on what is left over. No debts, but have to be careful with spending as using my savings for everyday living. Will try and make savings with what I need to buy.
B Budgets should be set before the start of the month for all categories - Food, travel, entertainment/personal spends (for those who have them), children's activities. Budgets have been set for month.
O Originality and a sense of humour will get us through this month and the last quarter of 2020. Will try and plan some fun things to do.
U You must change the way you think about things. This I have to do and make positive changes. Look at different ways in helping myself.
N No limits. Take time to ponder, muse, wrestle a tricky problem. Have already decluttered a lot of things over the years. Will monitor as to what I really need before buying things.
D December. We are still not talking about that day but, like everything else, things are going to be different. I only give cash for presents to brother, sister and their families. Planning to have a quiet time as usual this time of year. Will be making phone contact with brother and sister on that day. Thinking of getting myself a few food treats from my favourite shop.
