Do I replace this tyre

  • I certainly won’t be scrimping on tyres, was just after opinions. That car does about 20 miles a month at the minute.
So for another opinion, would you recommend one or the other of these?

I certainly wouldn't spend £30/tyre more on the Pirellis.

    From the BlackCircles choice...

I'd be going for the Bridgestones or a tenner more for the Contis.

They aren't "BMW-rated", but I'm very sceptical of the value of that anyway.
  • I agree. I’m not bothered about whether the letters BMW are in the spec, just want a decent tyre

OK, but the two you linked to are the only BMW-rated ones BlackCircles offer.

I wouldn't bother with Backcircles, they really aren't that cheap anymore for branded premium tyres. INstead look around your local fitters and also ask the BMW dealer for a quote, you might be surprised at just how completive they can be. Prior to mine failing the MOT yesterday I was looking around for quotes for a matching Bridgestone 245/35R18 RFT and the cheapest at the time was a local fitter at £132 (Blackcircles was quoting £152), I got a call from the dealers who quoted £139.

Also one thing I've noticed is just how quickly the prices for tyres are fluctuating at the moment. As the dealer only had one in stock yesterday I've been doing the same search for another tyre so I have a matched pair and the prices have jumped over £20 since yesterday.

And one final thing, you really shouldn't mismatch the tyres on the same axle, so either get the same tyre that matches the other side, or buy a pair.

Both those run-flat tyres (BMW approved) are cheaper on etyres.

If running 19s I'd be going for the ps4s.

I'd be ditching the run flats altogether.

    By £6.

The Bridgestone is £6 cheaper,... Pirelli is £16 cheaper.

Personally I’ve  always found Etyres to be consistently cheaper than Blackcircles,...well, for my choice of tyre anyway. Sometimes the price difference has been marginal,...other times considerable. I don’t know if that would be apparent right across the board though,...perhaps not.

Again on a personal note I’ve had no reason to choose Blackcircles over etyres because they both recommend the exact same garage as my ‘nearest local fitter’.
