Hi, yes I did and he’s been amazing. I’m so bloody lucky, but I can see the worry eating away at him at how we will afford this. I’m worried about his mental health.

I had a letter today saying

“Provisional tax credits statement for 06/04/2019 to 06/04/2019z

it says for that period child tax - £24.29

    then it says

thank you for telling us about your recent change of circumstances. This change means that tax credits were not due after 06/04/2019 and we have to review the amount of tax credits paid to you for the period 06/04/2019 to 06/04/2019.

please complete and sign and return the tax credits declaration form we sent you by 32/07/2020.

    Amount to be paid
    £24.29
    payments already made £8001.48
Amount of overpayment from earlier years 888.66

    Amount due from you
    £8865.85

    Upto April 2019

    from this award period £8865.85
of this £888.66 already been collected
£3330.54 already been collected back from later awards

£8865.85 still to be confirmed as overpaid.

it doesn’t make sense to me. What are the dates about and why are they both the same? I’m guessing I will receive more letters about the other dates?
That notice is in respect of the 2019/20 tax year. The reason it shows the £24 and the 6/4/19 to 6/4/2019 is to do with a system issue. They can't remove entitlement for the whole year, so they just leave it with 1 day of entitlement.
There should be another notice covering 6/4/20 to the date they stopped the tax credits. It may take a few weeks for them to process it all and get the final award notices done.
Thank you, what about the years before, will I expect to receive letters for those years too? 😩

If you were overpaid then yes.

Not necessarily. If this check has been done as part of this year's renewal process then HMRC can look at 19/20 and 20/21. However, for them to look further back, they would need to use specific powers (either enquiry for 18/19 and then discovery to go further back). So it may just cover 19/20 and 20/21. If they want to go back further, they will open an enquiry or contact you about a discovery assessment (unless they have done that already)
