    Thank you,

Iv just worked out for the first 2 years partner was earning £31k Before tax. Would we hAve been entitled to something? If so will it be less owed than I originally thought? Iv worked it

out that every penny Iv had will be paid back, so roughly £25k.

I’m at work tomorrow until 4 so will ring them after.  So I just admit I moved in in 2016?

You partner was on a good wage, there was no need to do what you did, so as everyone is saying, yes, call up, explain exactly what has happened, and ask them what you need to do next.

Do you have anything that you could raise money by selling? Do you have a smart phone, a named-brand handbag, a car etc? You may start to feel as though you are dealing with the situation if you get on eBay and start selling things today, and get the car cleaned up and pictures taken to get it on Autotrader, it will be a couple of steps in the right direction.

Edited to add, here’s a link to the sentencing guidelines in place for this sort of offence. You’ll need to go through this yourself, as only you know which aggravating and mitigating circumstances there are. A custodial sentence is a possibility, but you can make a large difference to how likely this is by getting on the phone, and taking them through the facts without hiding anything.

And you need to do this with your partner, as he will find out soon enough, and it’s far better if you tell him now.

Also tell your partner before he finds out himself, which he will.
  • I have literally nothing to sell. I own nothing and everything is my partners. He needs his car for work.
    I have no named things.

He will probably have to remortgage.
  • I wasn’t using the money to buy myself fancy things and go on holidays.

It was mostly so I could have some sort of independence and pay the debt I have. Pay for my older children etc.

It doesn't matter what you used it for, it's still benefit fraud because you didn't report the changes in 2016 like you should have. All changes must be reported.
  • I Know that. I’m fully aware. It’s hit me full force in the face.

He is not responsible for your debt.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
