So, yes, as you say, it could well be that I was fortunate to have had my balance returned but I admit  I did feel sufficiently irritated and aggrieved by their abysmal customer service that I wasn't keen to let go of that particular issue
Yes, it's been poor. My mother in law got notification of the change just after she topped up her account. If you got proper notification, it included a promise to return your money as long as you applied before a certain time. They agreed to send her a cheque for the balance, but she says she never got it.

Yes but some people ( me) have been put on the simply 8p tariff, which seems ok to me now that 02 and 3 have dropped their cheap tarriffs.

Not sure why you have to cancel Pay as you go, just Chuck it in the bin. But for the record,i hate virgin anything and would sooner use two baked bean tins and a piece of string

You don't have to cancel. You don't have to do anything ... but, initially, I was told (subsequently to be shown as having been told incorrectly) that I was going to be put on the 'Daily Plan' @ £2 per call and I found that unacceptable and decided to attempt to withdraw from Virgin and the only way to seek to get my balance returned to me was to go through their complaints procedure and when I entered that procedure I needed to give them reasoning for my dissatisfaction and to demonstrate the level of inefficiency they had shown me.

I didn't wish to remain with them, I wanted my money back and I wanted them to know how poorly they had acted (see the Community forum and Trustpilot to see just HOW poor they have been). They wouldn't have returned my balance without my creating (and diligently pursuing) a sound case - the 789 advisor told me outright they weren't going to return my money and I posted here because this is a "Moneysaving" site and, rather than than just roll over and give in to them and 'chuck it in the bin' and let them keep MY money, I decided to do something about it ... I wanted my money back - and by posting here I seek to show that it's worth making a bit of a fuss if an organization like them are getting away with it. I wanted my money back - they gave it back to me, thats all I'm saying.

And finally, fellow poster mgfvvc said :-

The above is a useful confirmation of the notification that should have been sent to all affected customers  i.e tha Virgin Mobile were going to send out new SIM cards and that customers could opt out of the forthcoming changes if they so chose.

I didn't get that notification. If I had received it then none of this would have occurred. The problem came when they refused to act retrospectively when I approached them, telling them I'd NOT had the notification - and in the case of mgfvvc, the notification was received ... but, regrettably, the refund wasn't made.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is not the 8p tariff only available to Virgin customers already on TV or broadband or home phone contracts?
As I mentioned earlier, Asda Mobile allow anyone to join and use their 8p scheme (and their customer service is impeccable).

Roddydogs, I did see that your own experience with VM (as detailed in your posts on the Virgin Media Community forum site) hasn't been great in the past but you haven't mentioned that here so presumably you're now happy with everything?

No, but what's that got to do with the 8p tariff?, I never said it was available to everyone.

But it might have been helpful if you had.

And when you said - 'Yes but some people ( me) have been put on the simply 8p tariff, which seems ok to me ....etc ... I was simply asking if your issues with VM had been resolved, but, in doing so I seem to have caused a degree of irritation
