I thought I would add my experience having received the email on 15 Sep.  I have BT Fibre with a speed of up to 55 Meg, BT TV basic package with BT sport at £4 a month.  I have renewed my contract twice with them and my current deal runs to Jan 2021.  I initially got sport for £4 a month and haggled on renewal to keep it.  I pay £28.29 a month.
I rang last night about the increase because the email I got seemed to suggest my price wouldnt change until my deal ends in January.  Apparently that wasnt the case it was going up by £4 to £8 from November the first.  It would then increase to £14 a month from January 2021.  I said I wasnt prepared to pay more as I believe the deal I struck last time should be stuck to by BT, in any case what they proposed was a 100% increase from 01 November, followed by a further increase of 75% in January.  For what I watch on BT Sport I wasnt prepared to pay it.  I was put on hold and she came back and offered a £2 a month discount on my broadband which meant the increase in November would only be £2 a month.  I said thats fine but what about the Jan increase and did this involve re contracting.  She said yes it involved re contracting my broadband for 2 years and a 2 year contract for  TV and Sport which would be £14 a month from January!  I declined and said I would cancel, so I was put through to loyalty.  They flatly refused to offer me any sort of deal on Sport but wanted me to re contract broadband for 2 years for £23.99 a month, a decrease of 30 pence a month.  I refused and said the only deal I would do involved keeping sports and overall paying no more than I do now, otherwise it was not financially viable.  Obviously they wouldnt do it but then asked me about my mobile???  I said I pay £5 a month for 500 mins, unlimited texts and 3GB of data.  He said would I consider a BT mobile contract on sim only but it would be £7 a month for the same as I get now for £5 and I would need to recontract broadband for 2 years or the mobile bill would be £12 a month!
Now I am not entirely sure if he was just trying to bamboozle me or if he thought I was stupid???  I said no thanks, why on earth would I pay more than I already do on a mobile contract for the same thing, it was crazy, would you do that?  He replied No!!!
I said look I can get fibre through other providers on better deals and get cashback on them.  So they could cancel the sport now and come December I would move my broadband unless they offered me a much better deal.  I also added that it was disappointing that someone who has been with them for over 4 years was clearly not valued as a customer and not offered a better deal.  I thanked him for his time and the call ended.
I never realistically thought I would get the Sport renewed at £4 a month this time around but their unwillingness to offer a decent package was disappointing and then trying to get me to move my mobile to them for more money than I now pay was unbelieveable.  I shall live without BT Sport and Champions League matches but for what I watch its not worth £14 a month.  I will give them the opportunity to give me a decent broadband price in December, or move elsewhere!

Your experience basically mimics mine when I rang BT following receipt of the £4 increase email.

I have to say that I have been left with the impression that BT have all but given up on BT TV, and to some extent BT Sport. Unless you take their deals for NowTV, they don't want to know.

It makes me wonder what will happen with BT Sport. It was started as a means of keeping broadband customers with BT, but now it seems BT Sport is driving them away.  The BT Sport pricing is now verging on the ridiculous. Via Sky, BT Sport is normally £25 although at the moment it is being discounted to £17.  And that's not even in HD!

Some BT Sport contracts have an end date early next year and no sign yet of new contracts .
Premiership Rugby contract ends may 2021   . Notable that Amazon prime have stepped in to the sports market of late . 8 nations  is via Prime Video  one month £5-99 .

Given that sports have been pretty grim over the lockdown period, the idea that they want to charge more is a bit of a stretch.
  • I cannot speak lowly enough about this company - I can remember when they used to contact customers to offer better deals that resulted in savings, now they're desperate to squeeze as much out of customers as they can and by any means, regardless of how unscrupulous. Any better deal for you (according to BT) costs you far more money these days.

I recently signed up to a 18 month contract for BT Sport on the BT Sport App - it was advertised at £15 per month. When the confirmation email arrived, it stated that the price would rise to £19 per month within days, despite the advertisement for an 18 month service! I complained that at no point in the application process was the up and coming price rise mentioned - I was told I must have missed it.

So, I cancelled the contract and went through the process again, this time signing up to an 18 month contract on Sky at £20.00 - this time I took screen shots of the whole process and at no point did it mention a pending price rise - why would it when an 18 month service at a particular price is being advertised? But low and behold, the confirmation email arrived and again, a price rise of £4 per month within days of signing up to a 18 month service.

Absolutely disgraceful - no moral compass whatsoever.

Sky and BT pay billions for the rights to show premier league matches.
Who do you think pays for it, ordinary people and advertisers (who push up the price of their products to compensate).
