BT Sport going up 1st November

Has anyone else had an email from BT informing them of BT Sport going up on 1st November by £4??? I am paying £6 a month for this along with BT Broadband (£51.07).. Email is below....

Hello Customer,
From 1 November 2020 your BT Sport price will go up by £4 a month. We've put the changes in a simple table below for you. To help you decide what to do next, we've put together some options for you to choose from. These include switching to new flexible BT TV – a real game-changer that lets you build your package around what you watch, when you want to watch it. If you're happy with your current package at the new price, you don't need to do anything. Alternatively, call us to discuss your options which could include leaving BT Sport. If you're in your minimum term, you can leave without paying a fee – just call 0800 876 6955 by 17 October 2020. You'll still pay during your notice period, but we won't charge you for any price increase. We hope you'll choose to stay with BT Sport and experience a new way to watch.
BT Sport Pack    £4.00

You currently get BT Sport Pack at a special discount. When this ends you will move to the normal price for customers in a broadband contract term of £20.00(this price has changed by £4.00). To avoid paying an additional £6.75 a month when your broadband contract term ends remember to go to productsandservices.bt.com/existingbroadband/renewnow or please give us a call on 0800 432 0042 to renew. We will remind you when you need to do this.

Yes I got the same email yesterday. Contract and deal date isn't till mid December. I'm not paying any more for it so will be phoning to cancel at least BT Sport.

Does this allow me to cancel the whole package? Although I am happy with the BB deal that I have just now.

No Sport is an add on .
But always worth speaking to retentions .
  • you can cancel BT sport if you don't accept the price increase (regardless of how far you into contract)
  • I've had the same. I took a new 24-month BT contract out in June - for both Broadband and BT Sport. They are now saying that the BT Sport element is increasing - should be £4 per month but on calling, they say they can reduce to £1. Despite being a bundle deal, their justification is that broadband and sport are 2 lines on the bill; they could not say why the Sport element has increased or give any reassurance against future increases on either. If I were to agree to the increase, this would have to be for a new 24 month Sport contract (Broadband remains on the original one with penalties if I cancel). Crucially, this means my Broadband and Sport deals would end at different times, which makes it harder to switch (bundle deals are offered by most providers). I've escalated my complaint at BT and someone is due to contact me but surely this can't be right?

Many deals are out of sync
Landline 12 months BB 18 months  TV+ BT Sport 24 months is what i agreed to .
  • I had the email from BT about the price rise.  Rang them up and they were not prepared to do any deal.  They gave the impression that they were doing their best to get everybody off their legacy packages no matter what.

Result for me is that I gave a month's notice to quit BT TV and Sport, and I'll be going back to Sky and NowTV on their conveniently timed offer of six months for half price.  Which means BT is down £20 per month, and Sky up £4.99 a month.  That's stunning company economics from BT!

One cannot help but wonder how Sky knew to launch their offer at just the right moment, but they are certainly running rings around BT.

Called up & cancelled, tbh I haven't watched it much anyway. Thought it would go in 30 days but it was switched off that day.

All depends upon what you want to watch .
  • I've just had a heated debate with an advisor at BT over this very issue and they told me the same (I could only cancel my tv part of the package). I'm in contract for TV and broadband until Feb 2021. Wanted to use this price increase as an excuse to get out early as the broadband service I've received during my contract has been terrible. Asked them to send me a copy of my contract and I'll take it from there.
