Then, speak to Amazon about a resolution for your mistake which may involve you paying for them to deliver the laptop back to you. It beggars belief they would just "discard" the laptop.
Just like it beggars belief that someone wanting to return one of two almost identical high priced items, doesn't double and triple check beyond all doubt that they are returning the correct one before doing so.0 -

For some reason, management doesn't seem to understand that people make troll posts just to create banworthy discussion and instead ban those who point it out for "not being nice" rather than those who create the posts in the first place.

So they just threw a grand plus item in the bin and told you to go swivel?
A bit like the case where eBay insisted a buyer destroy a $2500 antique violin because they thought it was counterfeit, and eBay policy says buyers must destroy counterfeit goods before they can get their money back. The fact that it was still clearly a valuable antique violin and this was a grotesque act of vandalism was irrelevant as the policy was the policy and must be followed.3 -

Second question, why do they only discard MSE newbie items? Or do they have a policy for that too?0 -

I'm not 100% sure but I think It's safe to say they don't send out a monitor, in appropriate "ebay" branded high-vis jacket and safety goggles, to watch the destruction process. With that in mind, how exactly do they enforce this policy of "you must destroy the item before you get a refund?"1 -
Yeah that sounds about right citizens advice haven't been much help either.

I also asked for evidence that what I returned is the incorrect item again by serial numbers because I still don’t have anything confirming which was purchased from Amazon which they won’t provide me as it’s for internal investigation purposes and can’t share it with me - generally looking for potential next steps from you all a roasting isn’t the most helpful0
-
For everyone out there who thinks I’m trying to rip someone off - they refuse to provide me a serial number for the one they should have received so I have no way of knowing which one they should have received I just have to take there word it’s the wrong one?0
