Help, I really don't know where I stand (Scotland - Greece)

Cases overall in Greece are on the rise and it has just tiptoed into the govts 20 per 100k threshold. Fair chance Schapps will add it to FCO advice on Thursday.0

Part of the reason for the increase this week is down to Greece testing 7,000 migrants and 230 of the results coming back positive. Shapps did say that he would make an exception for countries which have enhanced testing because they shouldn't be penalised for doing the right thing. He stuck to that last week in keeping Denmark on the travel corridor list (with a rate of over 30) and keeping Bulgaria off (Bulgaria's rate is well under 20 but they've done a lot less testing than other countries.)superbigal said:Cases overall in Greece are on the rise and it has just tiptoed into the govts 20 per 100k threshold. You do wonder how bad it will need to become before ROI gets added. A political minefield.epm-84 said:

Gibraltar managed to stay off the list when Spain was added.superbigal said:

I do hope so, because Nicola "advising" people not to go to Greece with a quarantine, when you get back is going to make a lot of ordinary people loose money, even though I booked this in November, I have no chance of a refund or change of dates unless the FCO adds it to the list.superbigal said:Cases overall in Greece are on the rise and it has just tiptoed into the govts 20 per 100k threshold. Wonder if Denmark will still avoid the naughty step. Up to 65 cases per 100,000 now.epm-84 said:

For OP Greece has moved onto 20.9
Sweden back up to 21.1
Uk as comparison is at 47.4

Yes I noticed Sweden was back over it today but their figures vary wildly for some reason, just before it got taken off it was up at 36 and then went all the way down to the teens a day or so later.0

One of the criticisms of the blanket travel ban was that people had a lower risk of catching COVID in some foreign countries than they did if they went on a staycation, so one question to ask is if the UK average is 47.4 does it make sense for the UK government to advise against going to places with a rate at just above 20?superbigal said:

Although, another way of looking at it is if the UK rate was 100 and the rate in a foreign country was 50 then while 50 is safer it's still high and if there's a risk that foreign country will impose a full lockdown then should the foreign office advise against travel anyway?0 -
Some countries have actively tested all people in hotspots in an attempt to catch people with the virus before they spread it on to others. Greece is one of the most extreme examples of that having testing 7,000 migrants in Lesbos and finding over 200 people have the virus but had no symptoms. That resulted in them recording something like 450 new cases in a single day, when if they hadn't tested the migrants without symptoms it would have been closer to 200.bradders1983 said:Yes I noticed Sweden was back over it today but their figures vary wildly for some reason, just before it got taken off it was up at 36 and then went all the way down to the teens a day or so later.
Then there can be delays in reporting and fewer tests may be carried out at the weekend in some countries, like in the UK.0
