Is it worth reporting theft of catalytic converter?

So we went to Crystal Palace park on the weekend. Upon leaving the car got extremely loud and although I initially tbought I just had the silencer damaged I today found out in the garage that some jerks cut out catalytic converter.
The question is, is it worth my time reporting this to police at all or it will be 100% waste of time?
I will not be informing my car insurance of this incident as excess is almost the same as what it will cost me to repair the car.

It will be 99.9% waste of time. The Police won't investigate the theft of your cat. unless the thieves left some very obvious evidence of their identity, so it will just be added into the stats which is where it might be 0.1% not wasted if it causes the police to re-evaluate their priorities.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

In that case no. However, if you don't report and the next  x amount of victims do not report this then the police will not be aware and nor will the genral public in the area as you can get local crimes history via police web site that breaks down car cime figures into car crime etc
Count yourself as lucky in a way as often these creatures damage your car beyond the c/converter.

    Report it.
As above, it increases the number of unsolved crimes, and may help justify allocating one of those "Police" that we hear about but never see except on the News to try and catch someone.

I would normally report it but if I wasn't informing my insurance company of the 'incident' then I think I would keep quiet about it, just in case. (Yes I know you always should inform them).

If you report it then you will have to report it to your insurers also and if you change your insurers, for the next 5 years it may effect your premium.
