Everything will be estimated usage as I have no idea how much I will be using as im on my own now in a new home. I was in a family of three so it's quite hard to figure out how much I will be using. What's better a cheaper unit price or cheaper standing charge?0

Neither, it depends on your usage.Make a guess as to your annual kWh usage (many comparison sites will help you to do this) then compare the annual costs.0

OP, do you have gas central heating? If not, you probably use electric heating so it will cost a bomb by comparison. Are you out at work all day/night or are you at home most of the time? The more you are at home, the more energy you will probably use ergo the lower the unit price, the better... Probably. If you are hardly ever there or your usage is low, you would probably (that word again) be well advised to consider a higher standing charge to get a lower unit price. It really does depend on your usage.
No-one can know what your usage is likely to be but, to give you a vague idea, we are a retired couple living in a bog standard, 3 bed semi; we never leave the house unless we have to. We use approximately 2750 kwh of electricity per year but we have solar panels so generate roughly a third of our own juice requirements. We use about 12500 to 13000 kwh of gas per year; our cooker is electric. If you are on your own, it seems reasonable you will use less than we do. HTH.
