Lay Representative required for telephone hearing

  • Hmm not sure i agree with that.  some people will do it for free, but why should they (unless they want to) be expected to do it for free.  I see no issue with being paid to do it (or expenses etc)  and asking to be paid to do. People are welcome to say NO.   Would you expect a gardener to come round and cut your grass for free.......
Well if you are thinking of paying then pay a qualified solicitor not a plastic one.
If you can find one that will even entertain Parking Contracts that is
  • I've just been a bit dubious about lay representatives. I've looked at a few online, like Small Claims Advisor. Being paranoid I like to check people out, and after speaking to CILEx they've informed me that he's apparently not even a member now so I'm not sure who I can and cannot trust!
Thanks for the help so far!

If you have any doubts DON'T DO IT.

what a lay rep charges and what a solicitor who would represent you on the day is worlds apart

Yes, Small Claims Advisor is great (neither brown trout nor I has any connection to it).  But we know who runs it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you are paying then you want a professional person not a lay person.

Appreciate the recommendation, but just find it odd that someone would advertise themselves as being at a level of qualification that they're not? Maybe you could help shed some light on this?

No one should ever hold themselves out as having a qualification they don't have. Simple.

To be fair, the site I've seen neither states nor implies their advocate is fully qualified as a CiLex. I don't have a problem with the role of a lay rep or McKenzie Friend - certainly most solicitors don't undertake significant numbers of parking charge cases.

But, the two are different beasts: If you want someone with full rights of audience, (compulsory) full insurance and who is fully qualified, then you're likely as not no longer in the market for a lay advocate. You will need to pay a professional rate.

If you're bringing in paid help, only you can decide which is worth it in terms of your cash.
