Fault with car days after sale - Update

I bought a used car from a main dealer earlier in the month.
Before I picked it up I was told that it had a small issue to be fixed before I could take it, the salesman believed it was a brake issue.
I didn't encounter the problem myself when I test drove it.
It was taken to be fixed before I picked it up but it either wasn't fixed, what they thought the issue was in fact wasn't the issue or this is a completely new issue.
The car was fine for nearly a week until it developed the problem it has now.
Was told to book it in with service department by the sales team as I have a warranty, which I have now done.
Explained the issue to the mechanic, the sound and when it is happening and he said is likely something to do with auto gearbox, clutch or transmission.
He needs a full day to look at it to investigate but assured it is safe to drive until the appointment.
The issue is that they can't book me in to look at it until next month and after the 30 days that I would be able to return the car.
I don't know what to do as this sounds like a big issue so early into ownership and would be so grateful for any advice before I lose any more hair over this car.
I'm not mechanically minded at all and car is giving me major anxiety right now.
I really don't want to lose the car if I can avoid it, other than the issue it is perfect and so nice to drive when you get above the speeds it is a problem at.

You've notified them within the 30 days, so the clock has already stopped.0

Even if i have no written confirmation of anything? I don't seem to be able to get them to confirm anything in writing. I can prove I have called them I guess if necessary. When would the clock start again? And would it have stopped when I spoke to the sales team initially or when I booked it in? Sorry for so many questions.

Is it the hatchback with a soft clutch that you just bought and had some problems that are resolved, or is it another car all together?

It is certainly turning into an endless struggle to keep up.1 -
I bought an automatic after realising I couldn't drive a manual.
The car is quite sought after and had a lot of interest so I bought it before the mot had been done.
The mot then ended up with some more advisories, mainly corrosion but they assured me it was only surface rust and minimal and one part was replaced.
So I had panicked over nothing.
Then on the day I was supposed to pick it up he found the fault it is doing now so pick up was delayed.
I was told it was looked at and fixed but days later the same or very similar issue has reappeared.

Do you have anything in writing (email is fine) regarding the notification of the issue recurring and the booked appointment?0
-
No I don't. I had to pop in last week for something else so i mentioned it in passing to the man who sold me the car. He said keep an eye and if it gets worse come back to us.
It got worse so I went in again and played the manager a recording we made of it.
He said to book in with their garage first thing Monday morning.
I guess I could email the bloke who sold me the car to say fault has returned and it has been booked in if that will help.
He doesn't reply to emails and will only call which is frustrating.
I can also ask the garage to confirm the booking by email too.0 -
Send a confirmation email that summarises the conversation and confirms that a booking was made on X date to investigate the issue, and the booked appointment date is Y date. Send that email to all relevant email addresses, including the Dealer Principal if you can. That way you've done all you can to cover yourself if the dealer starts to play silly beggars.0

Thank you so much
I have sent a summary email about the conversations with dates and details and the date of the booking.
The garage have said the car is safe to continue using so I will do so, it is just very loud when the issue crops up!
I bought a warranty so hopefully it is covered by that as it sounds expensive.

The fault on your car was known about before you purchased and as the dealer was going to fix it, this would be their responsibility rather than that of the warranty provider (assuming that the warranty is not an in house set up).0 -
It is an in house warranty I believe as they could see on their systems I had it.
I haven't had the paperwork through yet for the warranty etc so not entirely sure but am sure they said it was when I bought it.
Edit - not so sure now, think it is an external policy.
As far as I was aware the other fault was a brake issue that was sorted so it either wasn't the brake or it is a new issue I will have to wait and see.
I have edited the first post so it makes more sense.
The bloke wasn't too forthcoming about details. Oh how I miss my old reliable car lol.0
