**Thank you for all your advice. Garage have now clarified fix to one part and other rust is minimal. Have given complimentary services/extras on sale so no longer worried**

Why on earth didn't you ask them to MOT it before you committed to purchase? Was your deposit refundable or non-refundable?No free lunch, and no free laptop1
-
He told me that their quality checks are pretty much an MOT anyway and that there was nothing major wrong with the car and that they had flagged the tyres and other small issues but everything had been fixed as he had got the car back from the service team just shortly before I arrived for the test drive.
It is non-refundable with some conditions but I was sold the car based on the above statement from the salesman, surely I would have some statutory basis for getting the refund if I decided not to proceed?
Probably not the best idea to take his word for it now I realise.0 -
It passed the MOT, so the dealer hasn't actually lied or mislead you.I wouldn't be too worried about the corrosion; get someone to look but it could be minor.I'd ask the dealer what they can do about the wheel and the shock absorbers. All of the items are fairly cheap to replace unless the car is super rare and parts are a problem.

No it's an extremely common car but it has been given a lot of additional extras so it is quite unique and is much harder to find as an automatic.
I'm spending close to £6k so really don't want to have to spend much more through issues straight away.
(I'm just a bit of a worrier lol)
I will speak to him as maybe they have fixed those problems or can tell me whether it is minor or major.
I've been unlucky to have a spring go twice, once on my car which was just a knocking/grind on turning and once as a passenger when it broke and embedded in the wheel, that was not fun!
EDIT - I have spoken to him, he is going to get them to put the car up and take another look but he believes is just surface rust for the majority of it. He may send a photo too.0 -
Did you pay a deposit "subject to the car passing MOT" or "subject to the car passing MOT with no advisories"?0
-
I asked about the MOT as it was running out in a week or so and he said that all used cars will get a new MOT if less than 3 months left and the car will come with a MOT. He asked for a few days to get the MOT done in case anything needed to be fixed.0

Three out of the 5 advisories I'd expect from a car that's several years old or more and would think nothing of them, it's basically MOT tester backside covering.
Dampers get done at some point in the next 6 months or so, they may even go through another MOT if you don't do much mileage. Cost around £150-£200 to get both sides done. The wheel I'd want to change fairly quickly.0 -
I will do about 5000-6000 so not much in the way of mileage.
I've had the wheel issue before and got it fixed for about £55 so I can sort that one.
Friend also confirmed they have to report small parts of rust and it's nothing overly serious and usual wear and tear of vehicle.
Not too bad then about £250 costs in next few months.
I will see if I can bag a free service if it needs one to balance that out...0 -
Advisories are things that have passed the test. They're just things the tester feels the need to bring to your attention... There's nothing particularly problematic on that list.
Probably makes sense to do the dampers at the same time as the springs, should you decide/need to - the extra work will probably be minimal, just parts prices. Springs are pretty much a consumable these days. A bit of surface corrosion on bits that hang around under the car in road muck?
Exhaust is "corroded"... Yep, it's what they do. How old is the car?
One wheel is slightly bent. Well, the next pothole after you'd driven it away could have done that.0 -
I have just spoken to them, he has been in the workshop and checked on what was done and had a look.
They have fixed the shield as it was bad and he said the other rust is so small it is laughable.
They have also given me a complimentary full service upgrade and bulb upgrade and put some new matts in light of the things on the MOT.
They didn't think it would update on the system so quick or that I would look and would have explained the advisories in person.
Worrying for nothing as usual lol
I pick it up tomorrow2
