Thanks for opinions ... even if I want to hear ‘go for it’ ha. I know I needed some sense and you’re a sensible bunch unlike my car mates lol. Tbf I probably shouldn’t have told him I’m potentially interested in an XJS!!

Alt It is crazy, stupid and any other words I can't think of.
Plus we are in Tier 3, you can only leave for work etc, not to look at a pile of possibly rotting metal.
Surely you can't be prepared your family's health at risk for a pile of metal. Get your brain into gear and realize your family is more important than any car.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.4 -
You can't afford it. You don't need another car.You can't travel due to Covid restrictions. That's it in a nutshell. It is a want not a need. One day when your debts have gone there will be other opportunities when you are in a position to act on them. But not now. Definitely not now.

The wrath of the wife though 😂😂 she's a formidable woman.
On a serious and unrelated note. You have mentioned your dad and not 'being as bad as him' or words to that effect. I view making purchases and wondering how to pay for them as a bit of a gamble. Not trying to have a dig here, l haven't been a saint with money either, been a bloody fool truth be told. Do you think that because you think you aren't as bad as dad, aren't gambling in the traditional sense, that it doesn't really matter? In a 'well l ain't that bad' kind of way? You have a role model who hit rock bottom but you haven't sort of thing?

!!!!!! man. No, you can't have it. No. I don't care if it's an incredible bargain. Unless you both actually need it and they ARE PAYING YOU TO TAKE IT you cannot have it.

If you buy the car, what do you think the FIL will say? I think deep down you'll know his opinion will be correct. I would be tempted to use him as motivation to keep on the straight and narrow to spite him.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

No - two cars and you can't change the BMW until February at the soonest. How often do cars this good come up for sale? Seems to me that when you pass on this you aren't passing on the opportunity of the decade - there are hundreds of XJSs advertised for sale at the moment. I assume you are selective and most of them aren't right for you - but this seems a strong indication that whenever your head and wife agree that changing car is reasonable you won't be left long term looking and not being able to find one.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Forget about the maths for a moment. Do you actually even want this car? Or is it just to scratch an itch to spend and to look like the big spender in front of friends? You've said a few times on here that you don't have friends you can rely on, yet this guy is apparently a good one. So why not tell him the reality that you're downsizing a bit at the moment, looking to save on things - even if you have to pretend it's for business reasons to progress etc. I don't know why you told him you were considering buying one when you're actually in the opposite position. I really hope you can find your way to opening up to some friends at some stage instead of the constant walls up, arms length, bantering like everything's okay. Not everyone will judge you. He might surprise you as being a good confidant for the future.Debt Free: 06/03/2020 Highest Debt: £37,5144
