I can see if you’re not a car guy why you won’t be interested and just think ‘what a waste of money’. Thing is it’s not to me and it’s always the cars... I’m quite aware Range Rovers have a bit of an image problem tbh. I think they’re the best daily car money can buy outside of the next level stuff but tell people you drive a Supercharged RR and the tree huggers are incandescent with rage, people who’s idea of owning a car is something to get from A-B as cheaply as possible either don’t care (👍) or start the ‘w****r’ ‘big car small d**k’ ‘bet that’s on finance wink wink’ ‘D7UGS’ ‘more credit than Barclays’ stuff - I genuinely think they probably do hate what they drive and yeah wish they owned a RR but don’t want the commitment / depreciation or just can’t afford it. Fair enough but I’m not the one judging their choices. 100 if I said it was a Mercedes E63AMG or even AM no one on here would care, just say something along the lines of ‘big payment have you thought about the balloon’ because it’s not got the same image as a RR.
On another note got an offer in on a little development project if it’s accepted good profit, great location, really nice little flip and if market gets worse soon will rent out all day long. Win win.
@RelievedSheff XR4i, right colour and the 3 door too - I’d swap my 440i for that, love it! Still looking at the potential of swapping the BM for a V12 XJS got to be in masons black though. Wife loves them, I like them too and think they’ve turned the corner. Appreciating in value so should easy beat any interest.
@FootyFanDan Thanks mate. You’re right I’ve been far too selfish for far too long tbh. Also right I’m always going to want the lifestyle stuff, drives me forward tbh but I can’t just carry on waiting for my income to catch up to my appetite for spending. It never will haha. You’re not the only one who’s told me to look back - fairly sure it’s probably quite bad ha.1 -
@alt80 Had the XR for 20 years now. We bought it for £600 when they really were worth next to nothing. The other half works as a panel beater doing car repair and restoration. His boss let him do the car at work so it really owes us very little other than time, a lot of time. What started out as a six week restoration turned into just shy of two years.
It isn't as bad this time by a long way. He reckons it will take a couple of months to get it back to A1 condition.
Never really been a fan of the Jags myself.1 -
Don't get me wrong I do like cars, just not enough to put myself out to pay out big for one.
I've always said that I'd have a Mustang GT, but I know I'd be bored of it at after 3 months. My Husband gives me a week once I've seen the fuel bill.
I did also want a TVR, then I had a car accident and realised I was quite happy with slow and steady.
I've driven quite a few different cars through work, first brand new one I drove I was sat in thinking I couldn't tell if this was brand new or 5 years old, it was a VW and nothing special.
BMW's I think are completely overrated, have driven the 2, 3 and 5 series, I don't get it at all, it felt cheap and uncomfortable, I'd put it on a par with Renault.
Mini's not very comfortable but really fast
Several fords and can't fault, what I now drive but I decided against going up enough for a Kuga.
My absolute favourite was the Mercedes E220, drove around 200 miles and got out feeling great, I have a few back issues so that was fantastic for me. Great interior, nice extras, can't fault. Once I don't have 4 dependants a Merc will be high up on my shopping list.

@RelievedSheff DH has an N reg red ford escort, unbelievable the amount of attention it gets 🙄 😂 this is one of the more practical cars he has had...!

@RelievedSheff you’ve done well with it, will be worth a fair bit of cash now. My mate with the MGB doesn’t earn well but got a £100k garage - bought wise 10/15 years ago.
Could also be interested in a 635CSi / Mercedes SL or AM DB7 but not gonna lie seeing my wife behind the wheel of a black V12 XJS would do it for me lol.
@annabanana82 You’re clearly not that into cars tbh - if you’re bothered about mpg you’re not a petrolhead. Not a TVR fan personally - don’t want a plastic car built in Blackpool thanks also not a massive Lotus fan. I like GTs with big engines and 8/12 cylinders. I certainly used to be a BMW man but they don’t make anything I’m interested in now. Almost stopped reading when in your opinion Minis are ‘really fast’, get yourself behind the wheel of a few things with proper engine driving the right wheels and you’ll see they really aren’t. Nothing wrong with a big Mercedes tbf, I’d go for an XJ if after that sort of car personally.
@daydreamerandgeneralwaster ha 1996 N or 1975 N - if the ‘75 very nice if the ‘96 FML. Tbh I’m not really a Ford man to say I’m a car guy I’ve never owned a fast Ford. Loved my dad’s Capri from back in the day lol but probably wouldn’t get my wallet out now.

@alt80 if we had a bigger garage there are a few other cars we would have. But not got the space to keep them.
Always fancied an unmolested Nissan Pulsar GTIR but finding one that has not been ruined is getting harder now. Missed the boat price wise as well. They have shot up.2 -

I could afford a far fancier car than I have, but I prefer the financial security and disposable income levels I have - that's my driver and motivation in life. I'll have nicer things when I don't have 4 dependants to support.
But it's horses for courses.
And the TVR was about 20 years after seeing a pretty one. If I was going for a sports car now it wouldn't be a TVRMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

the thing is , in reality you are driving a car that you can't afford right now , well you can if you sacrafice other things in your life and can find the bubble payment at the end of your lease.
I'm not jealous or envious of anyones cars to be honest and I like to have what I consider a nice car but I also would like to have options in all aspect of my life and not be restricted because of something that ultimately is a means of transportation - but thats just me
Even if I was in the position of being able to afford any car I like , I wouldn't buy an RR purely due to every AA man I have asked telling me that it is one of the most unreliable cars they have come across and the one which they get most call outs for.
One of my best friends has one and it is a money pit but she won't consider anything else purely down to her image and how she things others see her when she is driving it.

Oh it's a 96 one. Everyone comments on it - the food delivery drivers, double glazing salesmen, random people on Facebook, the men at the tip are really disappointed when we turn up in my car 🙄1
