Previous poll on "wombling", I do it on the odd occasion, do you?

Oh and it sounded so cute! I once found someone else's "25 points if you spend £1 on cheese" or something, and I still haven't used it... I am not holier than thou just lazy!

Hi guys - just a response to some of the notes above

    1. This site has 3m users a month; and the weekly email goes to 1.6m far more than the new TV series is likely to get - so the idea that by just keeping it on the site doesn't quite work. Thus any loopholes that I do there are already in the public domain

    4. Remember folks IPTW is my show and my production company; and while I'm not in total control of it I understand all the issues above implicitly. I think some of the comments are jumping the gun about how we'll handle things.

    martin :)

Thanks for your response Martin and its heartening to know you'd already considered the points various people have made.

Yes the site may get 3 million visitors a month but people pick and chose what they read ...and no-one will be reading all areas of the site - TV is a much more 'in your face' medium. If 1 million viewers watch you talking about wombling then thats a lot more than visit that particular thread on MSE.
Also TV is a much more instantly 'embarrrassing' medium for a business - they def won't want to look stupid on TV.

I'm not jumping the gun with my comments - I'm urging caution with a view to protecting consumers who may get their fingers burnt.
Good luck with the show and I'm an avid supported of MSE and love the work you do with educating people about their finances.

Awwwww Lillibet go on, do it ! I have asked to be in the audience so we can catch up again if you tell me in which episode you are!

EDITED TO SAY: I see you are in, Lillibet! let me know when and if you want we can meet in advance for a cuppa, depending on what day you are appearing! Or are you not going to be there in the studio and only get filmed at home? Pls let me know!

Hi Martin, well done for organising this programme, I hope to see you from the audience! Have emailed for info today.

Any other MSErs going to be in the audience? We ought to go as a group, with banners and stuff!

    Love to all

    Caterina
    Hi Caterina,

I would love to meet you again! However I contacted the audience address last night and had a reply today that the first two shows are full.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • Yes I have to echo cautionary comments above. The initial thread DOES mention wombling and those who max the loopholes. Whilst a select few will come here and other sites like PTS, I suggest we are a very small minority and we manage to exploit the loopholes due to being in a minority.

I like the idea of a moneysaving programme but if it is going to feature such methods as wombling and those like it (as I say this is expressly mentioned in your post Martin) then it will encourage others to do it. The more people exploit loopholes, the more get very low insurance through massive cashback etc, the less opportunities there will be for the rest of us.

Selfish? Maybe. But I think we should let Mohamed come to the mountain, not take the mountain to Mohamed.

  • I'm not sure why you would think its a very small minority, have you ever looked at the thread views?

The current Tesco misprice thread is standing at 534,449 views at the moment :)

this is quite troubling - i recently heard that the value of the MSE site is around £8 million if Martin chose to sell it - which is pretty cool, however there is a danger that he may cut off the hand that feeds him by exposing the tesco loopholes - he could become the next Gerald Ratner, after all there are other options - PTS to name but one
  • oh dear loopholes exposed on national tv.
hello tesco, look what loads of people will be doing after this show..... wombling exploiting loopholes to the extreme, and there are people who accrue hundreds of pounds in a 1/4 in vouchers. some customers have enough to buy a car outright!
'humm' says tesco perhaps we should clamp down, and expose the big earners!
    bad idea highlighting the above!
stick to what you do best saving hundres on loans mortgages and exposing banks ect.!!! -which more people would be interested in than tesco shopping

I have to agree with other posters about bringing the Tesco loopholes out into the open. It will be the end of one of the best moving saving loop holes going. Over the years, there have been many people who have benefited from days out, and meals, maybe even more. Most of these people would never have been able to do any of this if they had to pay for it, me included.

I have never done wombling, for fear of being caught, it's not really worth it for the small amount of points.

Please martin, keep our points secret, by all means take about loop holes in the past, the beef in gravey is a classic. I read about that at the time and didn't understand what all the fuss was about. Oh my how I wish I had paid more attention at the time.

I really think you need to reconsider the Tesco story. I'm hoping one of the mods from PTS will contact you, if not, please contact them, ASAP.

    Wow!

This is all very exciting and I will try and get to be in the audience as I haven't done anything really 'BIG' on MSE but I have saved lots of money this Christmas by studying the boards and spreading the cost throughout the year and we are going to the US with our mastercard half price flights courtesy of here so I have alot to be thankful for!

Good luck Martin, good luck all those taking part (well done Lillibet hope it all goes well) and hope to meet some other MSE bods if I manage to get into the audience!
