Ah, purpleivy, you have to realise that in the male brain cooking is creative. The cleaning up is slave's work.
After reading through all these posts I have ceased to grieve for my handy electric grater, looked hard at my tiny kitchen and the brand new Magimix sitting on the counter and told myself not to be ridiculous. Of course I should use the Magimix and just get on with washing up all the bits.I believe that friends are quiet angels

purpleivy "Is it a Kenwood food mixer with attachments you have or a food processor. I don't think that the Magimix processor will do stuff like cakes/meringues as well as the Kenwood. I have both, a really old Kenwood stand mixer with some attachments and a more modern Magimix."
Thanks for your reply. My Kenwood has lots of attachments, including graters, blades, dough making gizmos, and liquidizer. The trouble is getting them out from the back of the cupboards, sorting out, and all the fiddling about. We also thought we detected a slight smoky smell coming from the motor last time used, so it will have to go.
I just thought if there was something smaller, with just a few attachments it might be better for the grating, soup making and chopping which it would be used for.

If you are getting shot of the Kenwood, sell all the parts on Ebay and put towards the cost of the magi mix. I have all the tools for our Kenwood, mincer, cream maker, processor , think it even has a sausage maker, none of those bits are used any more. Its my mums, she's still alive so it gets kept2 -
Thanks for your advice Apintplease. I never thought of selling the attachments on Ebay, a great idea.1

Box grater. By the time you've got a processor out, used it and then washed it up, you could have used a simple grater. If you have children or grandchildren, they can do it.
You can get proper Parmesan graters from Rigamonti

But when the magi mix is there on the counter, looking beautiful and begging to be used......
Seriously though I bought mine because I do have a need for it now Im getting older and hands don't work as they should. I did buy a processor 30 odd years back, one of these that takes a lot of counter space and needs attachments - and gave it away
The magi mix is tiny, foot print is no bigger then a kettle and if you do like to cook and find hands don't work, back is killing and all those niggles that make nuking a ready meal the easy option, then I will always recommend one
It is a considered purchase, I accept that, and on a money saving site its strange to recommend spending so much on something that a knife, grater and some skill wouldn't do. I do use my wee graters which are tiny, I do have extremely Sharpe knives , but Im more inspired to cook more interesting dishes with help3 -
I always use a box grater, generally its only a small amount of cheese I need to grate! But there have been occasions when I have had to grate large quantities of cheese for church events (think 3 loaves of cheese sandwiches) grated cheese goes further I can't believe I have never thought to use the food processed!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"1

After lots of dithering serious thought, I decided to spend my Amazon vouchers and buy the Magimix.
The good news is that I eventually decided and ordered, the bad news is that although this marvellous machine was supposed to be delivered last Tuesday, it has 'become stuck in the dispatch process' according to Amazon, and has not yet been delivered. They are supposed to be treating as a priority, and it will be delivered within the next couple of days or so.
The ancient old Kenwood will have to go, and I might try and sell the attachments on Ebay, as suggested.
