Thank you Apintplease, now undecided whether to opt for the Tefel cheese grater, or seriously consider the Magimix.
My old Kenwood must be 30 (or more) years old and quite large, taking up a lot of room on the worktop.  The Maximix looks much smaller, and looking at the spec.  seems to do all that the Kenwood does.
Although much pricier than the Tefal cheese grinder, wondering now whether to seriously consider replacing my old Kenwood instead.
    Decisions! Decisions!
Apintplease - if you want to add pictures, just right-click on the image, and choose 'copy image'.  Go the post and press Cntr & V.
    Voila!
Buy Magimix Compact 3200 Food Processor White Online at johnlewiscom

If you cook a lot from scratch, and you can afford too, the magi mix is a good buy

Mines the 420 I think - just has an extra bowl, its the same foot print.

Pastry takes seconds, cake batter about the same. As for grating and slicing - fantastic, I think I use it at least 3 or 4 times a week, stuffing for the Sunday roast, curry paste, onions and garlic paste for sauce bases, slicing carrots and cabbage, list is endless and because its there, easy to clean, I use it

I got mine quite cheap. The colour was "unfashionable" at the time - cream - but I had cream coloured cupboards so I didn't care :)  I also got the fruit juicer included as a freebie which I haven't used much but I think they often include things like a puree press thingy which would be of more use to me

    Thanks for your input.
Am going to have a look at both choices, and decide which to go for.
Thanks very much, will update when I've decided.
    Really appreciate everyone's help.

    Thanks for replying MrsArmitage.
Your recommendation sounds like just what I need.  Have bookmarked on Tefal  website, and will have a look later.
Thanks for your suggestion, really appreciated.
    Fresh Express
The Lidl one looks very much like this. Based on my spiraliser I would buy this rather than the Tefal. Its a reliable piece of kit so why pay over the odds? Its one of these items that comes round time and again, and I haven't seen it for a while so it would surprise me if it doesn't make an appearance this autumn. £15 vs £90 is a no-brainer.

I never considered one before but now I am going to keep an eye out for one on Gumtree.

Eta: here you go, £13 in Stanmore.

We have a cheese planer made by Laser. Pull it across a piece of hard cheese and it produces cheese shavings which we use instead of grated cheese. It's amazing how often that is all that is needed rather than actually grating the cheese. The planer cost about £3 and after use it is cleaned in a couple of seconds.

Have been wondering whether to choose something small and basic, or whether to replace our old food processor with something smaller and fewer attachments.
Have been looking at reviews and ratings, and wondering what to do.
I have some vouchers at Amazon and dithering over whether to splash out.

I have a few microplane graters, in different sizes but they are easy to use and razor sharp.

I'm also a fan of the microplane graters - not cheap, but worth every penny

I tried to win a set of these from one of those Bauer magazine daily competitions a while ago but I wasn't successful. Seeing them on the competition page really ignited my longing for them and ever since then I've been hoping I'll see them on offer from one of the kitchen supplies places. I'm prepared to wait until I've saved twice the purchase price I think but sooner or later my money will burn a hole in my pocket I know.
Can either of you comment on which sizes are most useful to you? TIA, goldfinches

Tefal Fresh Express! I have the same one as Mrs Armitage, and highly recommend it. I was given it as a gift a few years ago, and my first thought was “oh no, not another gadget to have to find room for and which I’ll never use because I already have a perfectly good food processor” but it really is great (grate - ha!) and I use it a lot.

I put a freezer bag over the end of it, and it grates straight into that which saves on mess and washing up.
I came to recommend the fresh express, My late husband brought me mine over ten years ago after a serious grated thumb incident (still have a scar) and I've loved it, use it to make homemade coleslaw amazing, never thought to grate right into the bag.. genius,  B)<3 thank you.
