If your daughter is treated as no longer normally living with you then you are not allowed a bedroom for her. You need to inform your local authority and these will will mean one of two things:
i) if you are in social housing and now have a spare bedroom you will be hit by the bedroom tax, or
ii) if you rent privately your applicable Local Housing Allowance rate will reduce thereby reducing the cap on the amount of HB you can receive.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -

My daughter has now booked her place in Halls for September 2021.calcotti said:If your daughter is treated as no longer normally living with you then you are not allowed a bedroom for her. You need to inform your local authority and these will will mean one of two things:

Will I lose my SDP then and have to reclaim it as that seems a mess about , or do I have to ask her to stay with her Father for the summer period ?0 -
Can't answer your question about July-Sept but occassional visits home won't affect your SDP because you're allowed to have visitors to stay. The bedroom tax will still apply to you when she visits because you can't have it both ways and expect to be eligible for the SDP and not have the bedroom tax applying.

Yes I will pass info on to her so she can look into it. I think she was hoping to stay for the duration.Sncjw said:Be mindful of your daughter that she may not get to stay in halls for the duration of the course unless she has disability and need an adapted place well that is what happend at the uni I went to.

Yes I understand I’ll need to pay bedroom tax but who could I speak to regarding the July-September period ?poppy12345 said:Can't answer your question about July-Sept but occassional visits home won't affect your SDP because you're allowed to have visitors to stay.
