I receive PIP, SDP and ESA in the support group. My daughter will be leaving college in 2021 and will be going to Uni and will take out a student loan.
If she lives at home while at Uni, will I lose my SDP / is she classed as a non dependent even though she'll be studying full time?
Will she have to contribute to Housing Benefit or Council Tax payments ?

Will she have to contribute to Housing Benefit or Council Tax payments ?If she doesn't claim a disability benefit herself like DLA mid/high rate care or PIP daily living then yes you'll lose the SDP because she'll be a non dependent. Dependants are young people that you still claim child benefit for and when in uni you don't receive this.Although if you're claiming housing benefit then you won't have any non dependant deductions for this because you're claiming a disability benefit. For council tax reduction she'll need to get proof of being a student from the Uni and then you'll need to send it to your local council.1 -
If she is living with you then you will, as you suspect, lose your SDP.
For Council Tax she is disregarded if she is a full time student so will have no impact on your Council Tax.
For Housing Benefit there will be no non-dependant deductions if your PIP award includes the Daily Living element.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -

My PIP is due to be renewed in the same month as she starts Uni, and knowing from past experience that even my circumstances/health have not changed, they may revoke it again and I may have to take it to appeal again. If my PIP is revoked would this change anything ? Would this cause any further deductions?calcotti said:If she is living with you then you will, as you suspect, lose your SDP.

There's no non dependant deductions for students when claiming housing benefit. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/benefits/housing_benefit_deductions_when_living_with_non-dependantsA lot of students work along side uni so she can contribute to the bills from her wages (if she's able to find work), or student loan. Most students claim a student loan.

I think that even if you are not getting the Daily Living part of PIP there would be no non dependant deduction for HB because they are a full time student, except during the summer vacation if they are in work (EDITED for correction).willowtreemum said: If my PIP is revoked would this change anything ? But you are, of course, no longer expected to support her - she is expected to support herself.willowtreemum said: I'm already losing Child Benefit, Child Tax Credits, Child Maintenance and SDP to a total of £928 a month when she goes to University.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Yes of course her Student Loan would be her means to support herself , I just needed confirmation of any further deductions as we cant figure out if financially it would be cheaper/better for her to stay at home during her time at Uni, or move into halls.calcotti said:

Have edited my previous reply which was wrong because I’d mixed something up.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1

On what grounds is SDP paid and why would I lose it if my daughter stays at home ?0

She's no longer classed as a dependant and part of the criteria is that you live alone, or classed as living alone. If she claimed a qualifying disability benefit then you could continue to recieve it.It doens't matter how many times you ask, the advice will remain the same.Edit because now i'm really confused, you've now started commenting on your other thread, so you have 2 threads with exactly the same questions.0
