Gosh, so I lost 6 weeks of payment now :(
That's not correct. You will have lost just over two weeks of UC (effectively the period 1st September to 16th September). Had you claimed on 1st September you would have got your first UC payment on 7th October.
But I stopped working at the beginning of August so I had no income for August, and had no paid job so technically lost 6 weeks. it looks like I lost almost £1k which is a lot of money.

No, you didn't because you received your wages. UC entitlement depends on earnings received during your assessment period.

Unfortunately the timing of a job ending can make a difference to benefit entitlement. As most businesses run payroll on a set dates somebody who has employment end just after a payroll run and who therefore has to wait several weeks for that final payment is in a worse position than someone whose employment ends just in time for the payroll run and who can then claim benefit as soon as that payment has been received. There is no way round that - it's the way the UC system is designed.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Is there anything else I can potentially claim for the period where I had no income or money whatever? Loosing 6 weeks of support is a big hit for me.
  • You mentioned that your last payment from your employer was on the 31st August.

Was this your normal, full wage?

There's no other benefits you can claim other than Child benefit and council tax reduction.

One more question - my employment ended on 3rd of August with the last payment for July - 3rd Aug being made at the end of August. Universal credit still has not been approved as they are taking money received on 31st Aug as my income for Aug which is incorrect!
How can this be rectified? Am I entitled to any benefits from the first day of being unemployed ie 8th August? Im now technically 6 weeks without the income.

    Thank you.

It's not incorrect and It can't be rectified because any earnings received during your assessment period reduces your UC bt 63% if you don't have the work allowance. What you should have done was started your UC claim after you've received your final wages.
If you claimed NS/JSA as well then this is deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
I made a claim on 17th August -  last day of employment 3rd August and last payment made on 31 Aug.
Will I be able to claim from 1st Sept or 17th Sept? Its so confusing and I wish people would get more help with making a claim to not lose more money. I could also ask my employer to pay me asap if I would have known that would be the case.
If those are your claim dates you'll be paid any UC left after deductions (from the payment you received on Aug 31st) in about a week's time. It's standard for everyone to be paid a week after their assessment period ends.

Is your UC statement available to view yet? After deductions is there anything left?
(If your earnings were so high for 4(?) days' work to wipe out any UC entitlement then the UC amounts even when you get the full payment will be quite a shock for you!)

but that payment was for July not for August as I was unemployed for majority of August. How fair is that that some people end employment and are paid the same day and other must wait 3 weeks and therefore penalised from DWP.

My assessment period is from 17th August to 17th September.. so I lost firstly period from 3rd August to 31 August (date of final pay) and then 1st Sept to 17h Sept as this was covered in my assessment period.. Hope it does make sense.. so unfair.

As has already been advised, it's the rules for UC and there's nothing you can do. UC depends on your earnings received during your assessment period. It doesn't matter how many times you question it the answer will remain the same.

It's unusual to only be paid for work done in July at the end of August. Most employees are paid towards the end of the month and this covers the work done in that month. Unfortunately the fact that your employer paid you so much later does affect your benefit entitlement.
