The humming could well be the spinning of the Hard Disk Drive - like you have in your PC. Have to say I only notice the HDD spinning when the TV or radio is off.

Yeah, at time of ordering you needed to let them know you have a HD TV so they put an HDMI cable on the order.

They will send one out free or credit your account with £5 to get one yourself. They say it will take 2 or 3 weeks to arrive, but usually arrive in 2 or 3 days. They only offer £5 as they ain't mugs, they know the real cost of these leads and even £5 is more than twice what it costs them to buy them in.

Are you know viewing via the HDMI connection?

You don't need to call India for support, if you also have Virgin Broadband you have access to excellent support newsgroups via UK only staff. Staff are there from 08:00 - 22:00 everyday.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Yeah, you need the TV remote as HDMI unlike SCART doesn't auto-switch.

So once you have gone into the V+ box menu and selected either 720 or 1080 as your HD resolution. 720 Wide or 1080 Wide if you are one of those people who likes to ruin 4:3 broadcasts and stretch them to fill the screen AKA stretchy-vision (short fat people). You then have to on your TV select the HDMI input so you can see the message asking you to press TEXT if you can see the picture OK, this will then save the setting.

Cheers for all the feedback on both these issues.

I went out today to purchase a HDMI lead and was absolutely horrified to find a 2m cable from John Lewis was £49.50! In debenhams they had one for about £75.00 so it seems that they are an expensive bit of kit!

Needless to say I didn't get one, instead I came home a called Virgin again on 150. Eventually after the usual delay I spoke to the man in India (He's a busy chap) and he kindly ordered me a cable Free of Charge. (If it wasn't FOC I would have gone into one as I wasn't going to pay extra for something that was supposed to be part of the V+ service/equipment as far as i was concerned).

Thankfully too, they would send it via courier so should be with me in 4-5 days - a bit different to the 2-3 weeks stated previously.

So alls well now, except for the noisy box, I guess it's something to have to live with though I may see if I can reduce it further with additional muffling devices on the shelf...
  • Why are they charging to install V+ now anyway???

Im not gloating or anything but i got V+ installed last March and it was free. At the same time i got my old box switched into the main bedroom, but as the internet point is the bedroom, no new point was needed for the box, they just attached something to it, so run off 1 point.

I just can't understand how one minute it's free, then its like £100 or something normally? Granted i do pay a fee for each mth.

To people who have paid to have it installed, do you till pay a fee each mth?

They changed it to compete with Sky. You now pay the installation fee and have no extra monthly charge on XL or a £5 monthly charge on M and L. You can get your monthly charge removed if you pay £100.

With the V+ install charge you now have no monthly fee on XL TV or £5 / month on lower packages instead of £10/month on XL & £15 / month on lower packages.

The answer to the humming noise is to put some additional sound proofing under the feet on the V+ box. Just some pieces of foam appear to work.

I noticed that when my V+ Box was delivered the cardboard box arrived open and cables had to be produced from the van, prompting that I wanted produced another trip to the van to collect an OEM packaged HDMI cable. If you do decide to order a V+ do ask for your scart, hdmi and power cables when the box is delivered.

You need to state at time of ordering the V+ that you require an HDMI lead as otherwise one won't be added to the order and the installer may not have one spare on the van.
