Don't worry, I won't shout at them! I'll just try it tonight and if they say no then so be it. Am very pleased with the deal I am currently on (not for 12 months but forever) so I won't push it. I'll let you know their answer (but I'm not holding my breath!).

Thanks for all the info

Keep an eye on your forever deal, we had a forever deal and when i phoned at the end of the 12 months to make sure it would still be ongoing we were told no we cant possibly offer you that deal and jacked the price up hence we jumped to sky.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Been on the 'forever' deal since they lost Sky One(that wasn't that long ago though was it) and my 'loyalty discount' was confirmed last night when I called. I will keep an eye on it though thanks. It does seem a bit too good to be true!!! (Well to me it does!!)

  • Firstly thank you to this forum for helping me to save money.
I applied for the 1/2 price V+ box installation and was told that I did not qualify because discount was already applied to my account (3 for £30). After reading this forum I persevered and after 4 phone calls finally ending up with the cancellations dept (150 option 4) I have got the deal.
I have kept my 3 for £30 and the V+ box will be installed for £75.
Tip.... Don't loose your temper with the operator when you ring upgrades. They are not authorized to give the discount. Ask to be put through to complaints or ring again using the above option.
Be polite and state your case explaining that you have read these forums and are aware that people are getting this deal despite already being discounted.
    Good Luck.

Firstly I noted on their website that if your a new customer signing up you are able to get £30 off the £75 installation (assuming you take the £35 per month all-in package?) so presumably that's where the £45 cost came from?

Anyway, have just been on the phone to Virgin, firstly they put you thru to an Indian call centre, which is a bit frustrating mainly due to the accoustics and slight difficulty in understanding each other - it also took quite a while to arrange.
The thing to watch out for I discovered was that when confirming the offer cost which is £75.00 they then state "There is also a £30 installation Fee" !!!
Well i was taken aback by this as there is no mention of it on the offer leaflet/letter as far as I can see!

Obviously hesitated about ordering the box after all but after a short while, trying to reread the letter/offer, whilst expressing my dismay, the operator said "Oh, I was just checking what offer you have - if it isn't on their then it will just be the £75"

I certainly wasn't convinced by his explaination, it seemed they were trying to get some extra revenue and if I was more gullable I might have fallen for it.

I've gone ahead rather than "Cutting my nose...etc" but am having to wait until 3rd Jan for installation which is a bit disappointing especially as we didnt get the offer until a couple of dys ago suggesting it would be ideal for Christmas!

I'm not overly happy with this but hopefully it will be worth it in the end?

When this came available I posted the details in the virginmedia newsgroups.

If you have loyalty discounts then it's possible you can still get the offer (I did, had mine installed 4th Dec, ordered 2 days after the deal became available - I held off for a couple of days as I have a Free To Air HD satellite system.)

Those on the 3 for £30 with free upgrade to XL TV package aren't able take up this offer, there's another package that you can't take this offer with either, but I forget that at the moment.

Note there is only one HD channel (BBC HD) and no plans to add more HD channels to cable, as VirginMedia are bandwidth constrained (not helped by choosing MPEG2 instead of MPEG4 (used on satellite)) On satellite there are currently 14 HD channels with ITV HD due to start in the spring.

The V+ is handy for recording programmes to the HDD. But unlike Freeview and satellite the EPG isn't dynamically updated, so if programmes over-run or start early if you haven't added enough padding at the beginning and/or end you can miss parts of the programme. (Cable only update the EPG 4 times per day with changes on Freeview and satellite it's constantly updated with changes as they happen).

150 only works if you have a phone line from Virgin Media. On BT lines 0845 454 1111 is the equivalent to 150.

Use 0800 073 0399 - if you are xTelewest. I might be lucky but I've never hit a non-UK call centre.

Not sure which Freephone number is for xNTL customers. There's a few on the SayNoTo0870 website.

I find if you are ringing to buy something you get a UK Call Centre but if you are ringing with a problem/fault you get somewhere like India.
They are not soft these companies.

I've been lucky, whether it's to buy or to report an issue it's been a UK call centre.

Yet others on other forums and groups are reporting they always hit non-UK call centres whether to buy or to report issues.
