AOL wont give me a good deal....

I have been with AOL for ages and am not tied to a contract with them. I am paying £14.99 a months for silver. Had to buy a new pc which has Vista, this means my AOL modem is no longer any use. So I phoned AOL and asked them if they could 'give' me a wireless router (like all new customers get!), they said no, as new equipment needs a new contract. First they offered 18m at £14.99/m for first 6m them £19.99 after that:eek: . Which I said was ridiculous so requested my MAC, they then offered £14.99 a month for 18m contract plus the first month free. Still this is crap so again I told them it wasn't a good deal, this time though they said we will email you your MAC today!!! I actually recieved it after and hour!
So now I have to find a new broadband provider, the problem being that i am not on an unbundle exchange (think thats the right terminology) so things like the talktalk free broadband is not available to me (in fact Talk2 International would cost me £30 a month!). So has anyone got any suggestions as to who would be good to look at
? Am open to phone/broadband bundles or just broadband. As long as the service is reliable and preferably not an 18m contract.

21CN PSTN migration due Jul-Sep 2011
There are no providers that are LLU yet. (Do not quite understand what the orange bit means). So it seems I will be stuck with more expensive BB whatever I choose? Unless you can advise otherwise?

Hi Poly1,
21CN PSTN migration due Jul-Sep 2011 means that is when the exchange is going to be upgraded to 21 CN technology - which means pstn and data networks won't be separate (yawn)....
For the consumer what's really going to make the difference is that it's going to give access to speeds up to 24Mb.
Kind regards,

Hi poly1
If you are happy with your AOL service, could you pick up a cheap router, say from EBAY, and use that instead?
The MAC will expire in 30 days if you don't use it and then you can apply for one when you are ready to transfer.
Most "Wireless" providers will want to put you on a 12 to 18m contract to cover the cost of the "new" equipment.Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught - Sir Winston Churchill0 -
AOL has been reliable enough but I think £14.99 a month seems expensive for what you get i.e. up to 2Mb speed and not alot else! It seems I can get that plus eveening and weekend phone calls included for that price elsewhere. And also I could get the router free elsewhere, when I called them they weren't interested in pricematching anything otherwise I probably wouldn't have a problem staying with them.Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.
