Easyjet cancellation - no rerouting!

  • GandalfG....I think all you need to know at this stage is that Easyjet are not going to pay for you to go to Luton at this stage and therefore you need to either agree to the flight, make your own way there and THEN take them to court for the cost of transport to Luton OR request a refund and start from scratch.  If, as you say, it is 'essential' for you to get to TV in the next 12 days and you can find flights from Manchester then this is what I would do.

As I said previously, I am not convinced when you haven't started the first leg of your journey, have been given  14 days notice of cancelled flights that the regulations about rerouting apply.    I have only ever heard of people being 'bussed' by Easyjet to another airport  when they have been either waiting at airport and flights cancelled due to issues at that airport;  are mid two booked flights or on the return leg.    Giving two weeks notice, gives you time to rebook with another airline or make arrangements to travel to the new airport if preferable.

By the way if you want legal advice from a lawyer, you will probably have to pay for it.   Good luck.

I think it refers to comparable travel time rather than total time (including layover time) so the turkey option is less travel time. Is anyone on here a lawyer or knows of a lawyer who would be willing to advise?
Personally I would prefer getting to Luton and flying direct rather than include a change of flight. I would also think that persuading Easyjet to pay out for your costs in getting to Luton may prove easier than a fight over them paying your extra costs in a flight with an alternative airline. (Though the pegasus flights look cheap, would you be out of pocket?)

Do they actually mean that they will book him onto another airline?   I know I seem to be on the 'wrong page' as everyone else with these terms but I took it to mean "Do you wish us to book you onto a different flight with us"   With mentioning they don't have any flights going until 1 December?     I honestly can't see Easyjet rebooking him with another airline when they can refund him and he can book himself?     Obviously time is marching on and obviously don't know just how imperative it is for Gandalf to get to TV, as stated,  but the longer he sits waiting on Easyjet the more likely he is to miss out every which way.    Bearing in mind that NO flights are guaranteed at this particular time with restrictions I mean.

I'm on the same page as you!
I don't think easyjet will pay out for anything without a fight. Their argument will be that there are no flights from any airline direct MAN-TLV at the moment, so they have no obligation to provide that. They will say their offer was changing to Luton to TLV or a cash back.
OP thinks he has a case in EU law, he may do; if he wins this point then I would think easyjet will argue that providing train/ coach/ car hire to Luton will fulfill their obligations. I tend to agree and pragmatically I think that is the easiest option.
OP indicates he would prefer a flight from Manchester with a connection, easyjet doesn't have anything that will provide that at the moment, so it would mean them paying for his ticket with another airline. I would guess you would need to take that to the court door (at least) to win that one.
In practical terms, connecting flights are relatively cheap at the moment, so OP may not be out of pocket by accepting a refund and booking himself the alternative.
Whichever option he chooses, I doubt anything will be resolved before he flies.
The other factor is that Israel is going into a second lockdown on Tuesday, which may influence OP's desire to make the trip at all, accepting that he has fairly essential reasons to travel.

I'm not a lawyer but would interpret 'travel time' as signifying total end to end journey time, rather than your narrower definition.
  • I would be out of pocket with the connection flights especially next week as opposed to this week. Second lockdown may close the airport which will mean I am not going, no matter how essential it may be. Looking into travel options to Luton in the meantime

    www.rome2rio.com for public transport options.
Hire car also a possibility, some of them offer very good deals to airports as they use the hire to return one way hires back to the airports.
