Sorry This https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32004R0261 is the correct link for the legal document.
I am also unsure and would like to know my rights before speaking to easyjet. Can anyone tell me what the legal position is with clarity?
Under article 8, invoked on cancellation, the airline is obliged to offer you a choice of refund or rerouting under comparable transport conditions, the meaning of which is discussed in more detail at paragraph 4.2 of the interpretative guidelines at https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:52016XC0615(01).
  • Thank you eskbanker. That is what I thought as well. Do you have any advice as to how to make them carry out their responsibility?

If what they've offered is insufficient then you'll need to contact them and assert your rights, quoting the above regulations - essentially they're obliged to get you from Manchester to Tel Aviv and back, so if their current offer only encompasses part of that journey then you can either ask them the open question of how they propose to deliver that or put forward a proposed routing yourself if you have something specific in mind.
  • The problem is with the timescale. The flights are in 2 weeks. If i have to lay out and be reimbursed that is fine but i need to be certain I will be. I contacted my credit card to claim section 75 and they tell me they will get back to me within 15 working days

Not sure what your approach is here and why you'd choose to go to your card company?  Are you referring to laying out and being reimbursed for the additional costs to/from London (seems messy and time-consuming to involve the card company in that), or a refund for the entire booking (which you've already been offered by EasyJet)?  Have you asked EasyJet what they can do for you yet?

do you fit the criteria to travel to Israel?  (otherwise you could pay out for flights and be denied boarding)
"At the moment, and until further notice, entry to Israel will be refused to non-citizens or non-residents of Israel arriving from anywhere in the world. In exceptional cases, one may apply for approval of the Foreign Ministry subject to proof of the ability to remain in self-isolation for 14 days."

That is out of date, you don't need to isolate coming from the UK. You do need an Israeli passport or approval from the embassy. GandalfG said his flight was essential, so presumably has that sorted.

  • Yes I received permission to enter Israel from the consulate yesterday morning. The card company are equally liable to fulfill the contract so I have told them I want them to provide replacement flights as easyjet are refusing to. I would like a flight from Manchester to Tel Aviv. I don't mind a connection even though it is annoying, it is better than getting to Luton. We are a group of 10 people

IMHO, this sort of thing is often easier to sort if you have a plan in mind. Assisting them with options could make it all a lot easier. So do your research and present a possible solution. eg find the flights you would like them to book. As a further aside, when BA had a strike and were rerouting, they did put people on trains from London to Newcastle/ Edinburgh to complete the domestic leg of a trip and that was considered in law to be satisfactory so don't rule that the solution may always be airborne.

  • I have just sent an email to the head of customer service, offering them the option of either booking me an alternative flight with another airline or providing me with suitable comfortable transportation to Luton airport from Manchester (and back) in order to  take their flight. Will update what happens.
