Rubbish rates, but what about best digital banking

Options
I'm wondering who has the most modern digital banking for convenience.  I rarely go into a bank, so being able to scan in the odd check is an advantage.  It'd be good to see that added to the lists of recommendations as saving time is as moneysaving as 2% on £1,500 is...!

Are you equating cheque scanning capabilities with modernity?!  Obviously the more features the better (in general, provided performance and security aren't impacted) but arguably the ability to scan bits of paper that many no longer see (if they ever did) is becoming an increasingly niche requirement, especially among those more inclined to bank via apps, although if it's important or useful to you then I take your point that you'd see value in having it included in comparisons....

I can't get excited about mobile cheque deposits although I have used it once and it was convenient to have. I reckon it would be far more useful to know whether the app supports card and PIN management, such as freezing of cards and viewing of the PIN, and real-time notification of deposits. As always, though, it's personal preference.

This will come down to personal preferences too much... I don't use my debit card for anything at all and pay everything that I can with my AmEx card or reward credit card if the merchant doesnt take AmEx. As such my current account's statements are very short and all these spending analysis features etc that some banks push are totally wasted on me.

Card management is useful, PIN less so but I have bad habits in that area anyway, what you can and can't do without some security device is an important one for me; I don't carry my HSBC business fob with me so until their app was improved I could do nothing other than see my balance without it.  I travel a fair amount and dont want a bag full of fobs and card readers but others do all their banking at home so may not be an issue for them.

One of the reasons for blocking the card, even if you keep it in a safe place at home.

I am with you, I normally use credit cards exclusively but I do make some exceptions for offers that require the use of debit cards (not the ridiculous TSB or COOP ones though). But there are plenty of people you cannot, or do not want to use a credit card.

I have poo-pooed the notification feature in the early days but I have now warmed to it a bit. For example, I get various 3rd party payments into one of my accounts that I rarely use, and I now find it actually quite convenient to get an instant notification. There are still plenty of people who sit up all night, waiting for their income to arrive in their account. From what I gather, they like this feature a lot.

As you say, though, it all comes down to personal preference.

HSBC and Halifax both have cheque scanning on their app.

My experience, Halifax, Monzo amd Starling offer cheque paying in but there is a limit
Monzo & Starling (£500 is the limit for Starling) will let you post high value cheques.

AFAIK, there‘s a limit with all the mobile cheque providers. One or two upped to £1,000 during lockdown but generally it is £500
