There are legal requirements for the size of traffic calming measures that can be installed. So long as they're within those, they are perfectly acceptable.

Remember - local authorities are very cash-strapped, and traffic calming measures such as humps are far less expensive to install, operate, and maintain than the others you mention.0 -

That enables you to take the bumps safely, and avoids unnecessary brake wear and fuel use between them.I have (generally) followed that advice and had no damage to any of my. 20-odd cars. Most people around also seem to take the bumps at 20ish - I drove behind someone yesterday who braked to a crawl for every one, and it was very unusual. And very irritating.NB Speed bumps on private roads, car parks etc. are a different story entirely.0

CV joints change angle all the time - they're designed to. The shaft is never totally fully aligned with the stub, let alone considering steering movement, as well as suspension travel.
And suspension moves all the time while driving on anything other than a mirror-smooth surface. It's kinda the whole job of it.3 -

20 cars
That means a car only last 18 months on average. Maybe slowing down for speed humps a car will be able to be eeked out to last a little longer?2 -

He may have had one car at a time for 1.5yrs each on average...
Or he may have had two cars at a time for 3yrs each.
Or three at a time for 4.5yrs each.
Or four for 6yrs.
