Speed bump damage to cars

I much prefer the idea of the poster going out to purchase a suitable 'milestone' car every year or so to preserve for posterity.2

Unless, they are special and treasured cars and @Car_54 is, in fact, Lord Montagu...You've found my secret!Unfortunately, the truth is a bit more prosaic.Between 1985 and 2005 I was doing 30,000+ miles annually and had 10 company cars in that time.Since "retiring" I have had 12. The average is distorted a bit by having four in the last 18 months, for a variety of health and domestic reasons.FWIW the only major problems in all that time were with one particiular car - a Rover 820 - where almost everything that could possibly go wrong did, at least once. They had told us all the British Leyland problems were behind them: they lied.

I always expect snarky remarks with this forum as unfortunately people seem to get off on it on here and also like the idea of being some sort of supreme expert; but c'mon, we're all just after some friendly feedback from others. Thanks to those who were kind.1

We don't change every car every year but on average change at least one car around about, within the 12 months.
The bottom line is we want to and thankfully we can afford it but TBH, buying new, brand new cars so quickly you do loose a lot of money hence our approach via brokers to lessen this impact.
You post reminds me of someone I worked when younger, the bloke had a Jaguar when I started there within weeks he go a Ford Fiesta or something like that found it too small bought a big Vauxhall not sure re model then that was playing up he got himself an XJS and that was within 12 months someone slashed the roof so he changed to another xj6 I think you called them and then I left that place. People do change their cars and some do keep them for a long time.
Thanks again0 -

The original post was suggesting that OP doesn't know how to drive which is causing his cars to break forcing him to change cars.... which is total wild speculation and no basis in reality.
Also it doesn't have to be expensive at all to change cars. If you're changing cars every year then you aren't gonna be paying anything in depreciation (assuming we are talkin about older cars not brand new car).sweetsand said:treeroy said:Grumpy_chap said:AdrianC said:Grumpy_chap said:AdrianC said:You're assuming one car at a time.

I don't want to be stuck in with 1 car forever! There are hundreds of different cars out there that I want to try. I rather like the idea of buying a car, having some fun with it, then moving on to the next thing on my wishlist.
I think 5 cars in 6 years is pretty good going, but I have nothing on my friend who's been driving for less time than me, and is on his 19th car lol ;D0 -
Meanwhile. I've had 7 cars in about 35 years. And I have had two cars at a time for much of that.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
what about humps that hit the underside at 5mph... in a totally unmodified family saloon1

Speed dumps do not damage cars or crack houses. Driving too fast over them does damage cars, so slow down. They are there for a reason, they stop people being killed.0
