Jeweller has lost my engagement ring!

It could be argued that if you were having the original ring resized, it was no longer exactly the same ring your husband bought you as it would now have been either bigger or smaller.
You are entitled to be put back in the same position as you were before the ring was lost, that you will receive a ring of equal (maybe slightly better) quality and design.
You cannot put a price on sentiment. Even if you were given a £1,000,000 in compensation, it will still be a replacement ring. In any case you have no entitlement to compensation. Think of the new ring as a further expression of your husband's love for you.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales2 -
I didn't start a second thread but my original post seems to have been copied as a reply. I've no idea why but have deleted it now.Sandtree said:

Think there was originally a forum glitch as I original saw two threads from the OP with 6 identical replies from yourself on this one but those extras have all gone now.
It wasn't really necessary to report it as 'spam'.0 -
When there is a duplicate thread, reporting it as spam is a good idea as it gets one of the threads removed which avoids the confusion that can arise when some people comment on one thread and some comment on the other thread.weekari said:It wasn't really necessary to report it as 'spam'.
You won't get any comeback from the MSE administrators for one thread being deleted because of it being marked as spam.1 -
Let's cut to the chase. How much do you want? What value have you ascribed to sentiment in this case?0

There definitely was a 2nd thread - but it quickly disappeared. Then I noticed this thread had gone weird too.weekari said:

There was an issue with the forum earlier this afternoon - your thread(s) were probably a victim of this.0 -
Me too, glad to know it was the site and not my pc i suppose.0

And here are the 2 separate opening posts, posted 17 minutes apart, just to show that people didn't imagine it:DoaM said:

Quite the opposite - most companies choose to self insure over a certain value so they’re probably massively out of pocket.weekari said:My point in asking is that the jeweller will receive compensation from the delivery company, presumably the retail value, not the cost value. It would have been insured. Therefore, they have essentially made money from this. I however don't feel I am better off. I feel I am worse off as I no longer have the original ring, I have a replica, a copy, at no fault of mine.
I know it's 'just sentiment' but it is meaningful to me and I would not have given it to them if I knew I would not get it back. Some people may want rings replaced and I don't judge them for that, however this is not where I stand. I wanted to keep the original ring as it is special to me. I now can't have this option, therefore I would have thought that some compensation would be appropriate but I wasn't sure where I stood. At best they’ll get cost price back as that’s all extended cover will provide for0
