Jeweller has lost my engagement ring!

Hi, I had recently put my engagement ring in to be resized. It was through the company where the ring was purchased. I have just been informed that the parcel company has lost my ring. The jeweller will remake my ring, so practically, it's all going to be fine. But, it's not going to be the ring that my husband bought me, it's going to be a remake. I know this is sentimental to be bothered by this but I do feel I've lost something.
I don't know what my rights are, whether I should be requesting more than just a replacement ring and I would be very grateful is anyone could advise.
Thank you.

They can't magic your old ring out of thin air so they are going to remake your ring, don't worry they will polish it with sentiment paste.1

Realistically what do you want them to do? What financial value do you place on the sentimental aspect of the original item?1

Maybe you could ask your husband to suggest a small design alteration to that he is effectively choosing a new ring. I'd hope the jeweller would oblige in the circumstances.
You're not entitled to anything other than the replacement they're providing, so it's up to you to be inventive to get around the sentimental aspect of the loss.4 -
My wife is on her 4th "engagement" ring -- she doesn't wear the original, had another made from a stone I had, had that melted and remade and then had the stone reset again
the sentimentality is in what it stands for and the relationship - not the actual item (imo)2 -
You've got a very accommodating jeweller if they'll replace it for you without argument and it's the courier who lost it. Don't push it by asking for anything more. (Sentiment really does have zero value).

Certainly in the USA there is a reasonable size of people that believe in "upgrading" the engagement ring so that it keeps pace with your current economic status with many re-purposing the original/previous item into earrings or such.JamoLew said:My wife is on her 4th "engagement" ring -- she doesn't wear the original, had another made from a stone I had, had that melted and remade and then had the stone reset again
The relationship is by far more important than the ring or any other token but I know I keep hold of some things for their sentimental value rather than financial.0 -

Are you taking about on this part of the forum or elsewhere?Spank said:Why have you started a second thread?
Think there was originally a forum glitch as I original saw two threads from the OP with 6 identical replies from yourself on this one but those extras have all gone now.0
