Kids play where ever they can find somewhere to play. They might need to be taught the difference between using private property as a playground rather than public a public space, but climbing into someones garden does not in itself does mean they are neglected kids.
  • With a close board fence you would normally put the good side to your neighbour, so the fact that your daughter has the good side facing into her garden would indicate to me she doesn't own the fence
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Plant a quick growing climbing rose - which is entirely to decorate your garden - and plant it this winter so it stands a chance of growing without damage.
The older climbing roses Mme Alfred Carrier and Rambling Rector grow fast and strong.
The little darling will have trouble getting over that lot and you get fragrance and cut flowers.
I did this with a road boundary and the 6 kids from the neighbours from hades. It stopped them.
You could plant on your side and train it up the back of the fence. I doubt there would be complaints if people aren't bothering about the kids behaviour.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

True. One of the abiding images in my own childhood is of my friend, stuck in the chain link fence by his winkle-picker shoes, while the old army officer type whose orchard we were raiding lay about his backside with his walking stick!
My friend went on to be major doer of good works in the town and, eventually, the Mayor.
Strict corporal punishment obviously works. ;)

  • You can usually board the other side of a close-boarded fence. Just use the existing rails and board between the posts.

    Try planting rubus cockburnianus,
I kid you not it is a real plant and with that name you won't want to mess with it.
Worth mentioning that if you want one of these from your local nursery or garden centre ask for 'Roobus coburn-ee-ah-nus.'
Years ago when I planted trees in a fairly vandal prone environment, I 'd stick one of these in alongside tree and post, then tie it in. When the tree became established well, we killed off the rubus. Never lost a tree that was protected in this way.

    I totally disagree with this.
If it is your fence and you have paid for it then you have the good side.

Southcoastrgi's view is in line with the traditional way of putting up these fences, however the trend seems to have changed recently with the big builders now almost universally doing it the other way round.  It looks totally wrong to me from a community/streetscape point of view but probably chimes with the mindset of the mass-market builders, where the only thing that matters (apart from the bottom-line) is the individual customer rather than playing their part in building communities that actually work.

When I was about 10 whilst playing my football went into someones garden.  I climbed their wall to get my ball back.  When I had the ball and was back over the wall the man in the house threw a house brick over the wall which hit me on the head.  I had to go to hospital to have stitches.  When I got home I explained to my parents what had happened and their reaction was not to do it again but to knock on the door and politely ask for my ball back.  Can you imagine that happening now?
