If it's minor damage, the other driver may not report if, with it being a van?mug51 said:I hit around the last 2/3rds of the length of their caddy type van, so that would make it my fault?

You think? Years ago I was on my Yamaha FS1E (50cc), so not exactly a pocket rocket - could make 30 mph but not a lot more without a downhill and a tail wind ... came round a bend, saw a Fiesta van parked and a car coming the other way so I had to slow down/stop. When trying to do so I hit some oil/diesel and wasn't able to stop in time ... I hit the van so hard 🙄 that my back wheel popped up a little, the front mudguard was pushed into the front wheel, and a minor mark was made to their bumper (which was already full of dents and scratches). No bent forks, no other damage to my bike - I simply pulled the mudguard straight and the bike was fine - not even any marks or scuffs on the mudguard.ElephantBoy57 said:

The van driver came out of the property where they were working, looked at everything and said "Don't worry about it - I'll just let the boss know what happened". What actually happened was that the "boss" slung in a fly insurance claim for a new bumper ... the first I knew of this was when I received a letter from my insurance company, on the morning of my Mam's funeral. (She died young). I did reply to the insurance letter to explain my version of events (I was young and naive so hadn't reported the incident previously) but by that time the boat had already sailed.
So the moral is ... if the driver is not the owner then they'll almost certainly report it. Whether the owner takes further action is another matter.1
