It is not the money, it is the principle. It is unlikely that they would have succeeded in court, and it would have cost them several hundred pounds. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

As they're only asking for £20 to settle, this seems a case of miskeying (or not keying) your VRM. Seems to fit recent BPA guidelines.
Do you want to spend a good bit of time trying to save £20, there's some research and work to do. How valuable is your time vs your principles? No, this is standard for Tesco where they now use APCOA instead of Highview (I can't tell yet how common use of APCOA is).
I saw one like this locally, where my friend who lives round the corner from Tesco was accused of parking the car overnight. True to form, APCOA refused her appeal pointing out that it was a double dip, but I got her to email the DPO and threaten dire consequences if they didn't check their images again and cancel. They cancelled.
But I noticed it was £70 discounted to £20, as standard for Tesco. I suspect this is due to Tesco getting complaints about Highview. My friend is well-off but as easily parted from her money as this OP, and not happy to be scammed (terrible idea to pay. This was a cinch to beat and a scam PCN):CupFan99 said:
Ok, I've just paid it. For the sake of £20, it's not worth my time to appeal.
Thanks for the advice anyway.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Hi,
Just received one of these parking notices from APCOA and was looking for some advice.
I will have been parked at the car park at this time, and for over 30 mins.
I would have spent over £100 at the Tesco shop and find it hard to believe I would have forgotten to validate my ticket unless the machines where actually down at the time.
Should I still pay?
Thanks.0 -
No , but you should start your own thread
There is no keeper liability for Apcoa PCN,s , so no blabbing about who was driving2 -

Evening all.
Today, I've also received exactly the same letter (as posted earlier in the thread) from APCOA, for parking in Tesco Hull St. Stephens, in early October.
The two time stamped photos, clearly show the vehicle was in and out in less than 2 hours & so the suggestion is that the driver didn't spend £5/& or validate their receipt prior to leaving.
The driver parks there every Wednesday & so knows the procedure & finds it hard to believe that they forgot to validate the receipt on this occasion.
They haven't kept the £5 receipt (who does over a month later?!) but online banking statement clearly shows that they spent £5+ in Tesco, on the day in question.
So reading earier advice that I should initially take it up with Tesco, my question is, do I simply take the letter & screenshot of spending to the customer service desk in store, or do I need to write to/email Tesco head office?0 -
Either will do.
But no saying who was driving. You just say ''we'' did this/that. You know from the NEWBIES thread, why not.
This is how you win at appeal - so easy to win for a registered keeper who doesn't go and admit to driving.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I'll call in to Tesco on Friday, when I'm next in town & start the ball rolling.1 -
