I struggle to understand why it's ok for you to be recorded but not to be able to record.

UPDATE:The Bank have been back in contact, and decided to reimburse all the money lost plus any costs. We'd sent a complaint stressing how the lack of action taken and advice recieved (Expect call back) on the call she made that morning (Proof Emailed, Screen Shot & Itemised bill) left her open to the scam that evening. Worryingly the bank still claim no record their end of this call, and someone knew to call her that evening to try (If not, its a massive coincidence)! They advised the investigation into why it wasn't dealt with is still ongoing.0

That's good result. Hopefully she will be very careful now and tells all friends and family to avoid similar scam.

Also, and probably much more importantly, the Bank figure out how a call regarding fraud wasn't dealt with or even recorded on their system.. and how scammers seemingly used knowledge of this to their advantage. The bank supposedly also wouldn't have advised she would be called back, and they could have frozen her account there and then to protect it, even if the fraud team were busy!

Is she sure it was actually her bank that she spoke to?
I mean in the old days when these things were done over the telephone the fraudster would keep the line open which prevented your phone from dialing out and the person would then "answer the call" as if they were in the banks call centre (or have a friend do it for a change of voice) and just carry on the scam.
If they were technologically astute enough to intercept the relevant electronic communications and be able to proxy an official reply that didnt get picked up by filters maybe they were able to go further? Certainly buying themselves a few hours whilst you await the promised call back would have been useful.0 -
