Robin Hood Energy moves to offload customers as debts pile up

  • Nottingham City Council are paid for every customer who agrees to transfer to British Gas which may explain why tariffs were still available to new customers and why the Summer Saver Gas tariff is so cheap. If you’re not happy to switch to British Gas you can leave without paying any exit fees.
  • still waiting to hear what the BG tariffs will be for us ex RH customers.

I don't want to move across to British Gas, can I switch?

"If you're on a variable tariff, you're free to switch penalty-free. If you're on a fix and your existing tariff has exit fees, you'll still be charged these unless you're in the last 49 days of your deal."

They'll be honoured, just read the letter they've sent you and look at the website.
  • According to both Robin Hood and British Gas websites under ROBIN HOOD SALE TO BRITISH GAS frequently asked questions, section 8, Changing Energy Supplier, Will I be able to leave  without  Exit Fees?    “YES, if you’re on a fixed contract you can leave without paying exit fees”
  • Like a lot of people I am on a no standing charge electricity tariff with Ebico (RH Energy)  Do you think British Gas will honour this tariff?
Are there any other companies offering no standing charge contracts?  Before was with Green Energy who said they needed "to be in line with other suppliers and stopped the tariff.  julesfly

Utilita have some  tariffs without a standing charge, but they heavily load the first kWh of usage each day to compensate, so if you are a zero user of power most days (a supply to a seldom used garage or shed for example) then it might work for you.
.. but if you do use the supply daily but with low usage then their tariffs may not work out cheaper...

My letter just says that British gas tariffs will be better or the same than we have not that it will match the tariff or have a zero standing charge tariff. Also it does not state for how long> about November Ii would think when the weather gets cold.

I moved away from British gas because it was hugely expensive.

I would like to see the new tariffs before I am switched over how can I do this? Hard to agree with something so vague.

Just because you moved away from British Gas as it was expensive, does not mean the proposed tariff will be. They have said match - so wait and see.

If you have been a member of the MSE CEC for long enough you'd remember the British Gas special they did that blew every other supplier out of the water and was far lower than the British Gas deals available elsewhere e.g. going direct. So I fully expect they will match the tariff for the full length of the fix because it will be a loss leader to grow their customer base on the assumption some will not switch away once the deal has ended.
  • We are really cross with Ebico as just had the last bill and despite being on a fixed zero standing charge tariff this ceased in June and now my summer bill is enromous as both hige unit rates and standing charges, the standing charges alone are £44. the bill is £120 for gas and electric!! rang the customer services number and it is wrong and cuts you off after giving a paying numbr!
