alt80 said:Can’t believe you’re selling the boat mate, motorhome does quite have the same ring to it. Just a bit less envious now. 😆 Seriously, can see why you are - def easier to get away for a weekend via the road network I’m sure. Sounds like the boat will sell quickly once out of lockdown.Personally don’t really see a problem with taking finance for something you really want and will get use from so long as you can afford it and have thought it through. Realise I’m being a hypocrite making that comment but certainly my intention for the future.
Glad to hear mortgage app in and the valuers are on the ball no money in my pocket; no instructions from your neck of the woods haha. Shouldn’t be too painful tbh looks a straightforward one from both valuation and underwriting side.Another one who enjoys venison here so does wife but something neither of us ever think about cooking.
We can get much further afield in the motorhome. Nottingham is a good example. Its 3 days in the boat, 40 minutes by road
I don't think you are being hypocritical. (It did make me smile though) We have run the figures and we can afford it. It will be tight to start with but will become easier when our current HP car loan is paid off early next year and card 3 is paid off at the end of this year. We almost certainly won't get a van straight away. We will wait for the right one. The longer we wait the less skint months we will have to endure

Sad to hear about the river but can imagine after 13 years you’re ready for a change.3 days to Nottingham from where you live FML that’s slow. Tbf I can’t say I get the appeal of a !!!!!! wagon, rather a GT and stay in a decent hotel. Probably going to spend enough to get a used AM on the motor home.
Haha yeah I know taken losing my ftype for me to realise how stupid levelling up on finance is without any thought being put into it. Miss the thing almost without fail every weekend. Lockdown goes on much longer you’ll have the card and the HP paid before you get the motor home lol.2 -

I expect you will get more use out of a motor home than the boat and I can see the appeal of that as you have a dog and like walking so there are lots of places in the UK you can explore and essentially it is a cheap holiday. My dad had a boat and it was a faff to use it every time and there are limited places you can use it so I think you will see more new places and it will be cheaper to run. You have had some enjoyment with it and can move on. Have you got somewhere to store a motor home though or will it need to sit on your drive?
Good luck on the remortgage valuation and hope you get offered a good rate.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. We have broached the subject with the neighbours and they are fine with us putting one there.2 -
Tbf I think you probably will go away a lot more than I would. When I had my ftype definitely used to enjoy a few weekends away but I’m talking 2/3 a year. Knowing how much you used the boat I suspect you’ll be out most weekends.2

We have a motorhome and absolutely love it. Get away most weekends throughout the year, prior to lockdown obviously. We have our main holidays in France though where it is a lot more motorhome friendly!
What motorhome have you set your heart on? Is there a particular reason for choosing it? You'd be amazed how many different layouts there are! You also need to think about payload and what driving licences you both have. If you don't have a C1 then you will need to stick to one which is less than 3500 cwt fully laden and as most motorhomes weigh over 3000 cwt it doesn't leave much payload by the time you deduct the weight of gas bottles, water, fuel, clothes, food and yourself plus, if there is a roll out awning, solar panels, batteries it really doesn't leave much if any.
But good luck with selling the boat and making inroads into your loans so that you can make your dream come true.

It is only a small motorhome but it packs a lot in for it's size. The main feature for us is the large lounge which a lot of motorhomes of this size don't have. Like you we will be out in all weathers so we want somewhere nice to lounge out when the weather isn't at it's best.
The unladen weight is 2980kg so it doesn't have the largest of payloads to play with.

Somehow I think the finance side is well under control these days.
It sounds like the 'equity' in the motorhome will be well above the finance which means it has a built in fall back if ever needed, although hopefully not.

Looks a nice motorhome @RelievedSheff. That's actually one of the lighter motorhome weights as it's under the 3000Kg! Have you actually motorhomed before? If not I'd advise hiring one for a weekend or week to try it out. You might find you actually hate it - some people do! Also as you haven't had one before I'd also suggest trying to find one second hand as it's a lot of money for a first motorhome - or any motorhome for that matter!
I'm not trying to put you off but I'd hate for you spend all that money and then find it doesn't live up to expectations.
