The other half requested a pizza lunch. Not going to say no to that :)

Taking the chance while we have it to cut the grass. Got caught out before with not cutting it when we could and then having weeks of wet weather so we couldn't cut it!!

That happened to us a couple of years ago, missed when we should have done the first cut, it then kept growing and staying wet. It was an age before we could cut it and a few cuts before it looked neat again.
We managed our first cut about 10 days ago and it does look better.

We had to get someone in to cut ours. We couldn't get it dry enough to cut with our electric mower!

    Not falling for that again.

Thinking with the weather forecast that is promising rain and gales I should get out and do the first cut of the year. Trouble is our recycling centre isnt taking garden rubbish and I already have loads to go . I refuse to have one of their garden bins at £25 and you cant take it witth you if you move as it is registered to the property. They also are now charging £50 a year to collect it. It is particularly galling as we pass the end of the road where the tip is when we go shopping every week.

The other half has decided to do the hedges on the front as well today. He must be in a good mood, he normally hates gardening. Luckily our local tip is still taking garden waste so he can take the clippings there when he has done.

No idea if our tip is taking garden waste currently.
We put grass clippings in our compost bin. We don't have hedges at this house so one less thing to deal with when we prune the trees either it is chopped for kindling/firewood or in the compost bin. We also keep the old raspberry canes as fuel for our multifuel stove.

I think the other half has realised just how big a job that front garden can be now. He got away with not doing any of the grass or hedge cutting last year. He is still out there now. The hedge isn't massive, just a low boundary feature and it doesn't take much cutting, it's the cleaning up afterwards that takes an age.

Think he has nearly done now. Just heard the mower start up. The grassed area isn't that big so shouldn't take him too long to cut.

We had a compost bin at the old house and it was great we never had to go to the tip with garden waste. Not really got anywhere to put one here which is a shame. The shed will take up the only obvious place for a compost bin. Luckily the tip is only a few minutes down the road and is rarely busy so it isn't an ordeal to get rid of our garden waste.

We pay £36 a year for a garden waste bin, first collection of the year was today as they stop collecting for winter. Worth it for us though as the nearest tip is about 10 miles away and we no longer have transport. We make sure it’s full every time to get our money’s worth 😆

I feel for your OH with the hedge trimming, our previous house had over 300 feet of privet hedge (planted by the people we bought from) which constantly needed cutting, well it felt like it to me, it looked great when it was tidy but it looked a mess unless you kept it in check.
