banned in London, i see no reason why it shouldn't be banned in rest of the country, you should see some of the awful parking on pavements in certain areas of Birmingham. The sooner the better i see, what do other people think?

Terrible "plan" that ignores the fac tthat, because pavement parking is the norm, councils havent kept up with parking requirements. There are many, many streets just in my town where if you banned pavement parking, the road either becomes impassable, or people wll have to park literal miles away.
Its a good sound bite with !!!!!! all thought behind it, no requirement to replace the lost parking (narrow 2 lane road can support both sides having cars parked on pavement, but only one side without pavement parking, so you've halved capacity overnight) which means you WILL have people parking dangerously, etc.
Typical tory plan, in other words.6 -
Difficult one this
As I've said before parking is extremely tight in my town. There is quite a lot of pavement parking - some okay - some bad
On my way to the station is a road with pavement parking. One section is really bad. You have to park on the pavement or the road becomes impassable - however that means that there is not enough space on the pavement for anyone with a pram or wheelchair so they end up walking in the road. To be honest, in some parts it's hard enough to squeeze by for a pedestrian without either of the above.1 -
Same with lots of streets in my area.nosferatu1001 said:Terrible "plan" that ignores the fac tthat, because pavement parking is the norm, councils havent kept up with parking requirements. There needs to be a street by street assessment and not all should have a pavement parking ban.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

But if it operates in London why can't it operate in the shires?

Even in London some small roads are exempt.
Across the UK this will cause chaos in narrow residential streets. Some must stay exempt.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I never park on the pavement .... my reason is that I have very expensive low profile tyres3

Bring it on! As in London, councils can allow pavement parking where it's sensible to do, and would otherwise cause blocked roads. But it really annoys me when people park on the pavement, forcing pedestrians into the road, particularly when they are not actually providing any additional road space. vehicles will still have to wait and pull to the other side of the road to pass them, so there is no advantage whatsoever.5

The problem for authorities will be the sudden added demand to enforcement and how they will permit pavement parking will need to be signed/lined, therefore more work, cost and time to implement schemes.0

Signing and lining schemes and the design work isn't done overnight and isn't free.beamerguy said:
