They aren't some generic Chinese brand.

They're almost certainly no more than a few quid cheaper than decent tyres off companies like Uniroyal, Avon or Vredestein.
Let's take a fairly typical size, which is in Landsail's seemingly limited range.
205/55 16, LS388
Halfords charge £42 fitted.

...or £46 for Avons.

Camskill charge £41 plus delivery plus fitting.

A random local tyre place want £84 each...

...while another want £45 each...

Oponeo are out of stock, but suggest £38 "Imperial" as a similar alternative.

...or £46 for Avons.

Blackcircles don't sell Landsail.
But Avons are £54 each.
The cheapest, nastiest, no-names are £43. Rotalla are £50. Taurus are £52.
Even Michelin are only £73...
eTyres have Royal at £39, Autogrip at £41, Comforser at £42, Kormoran at £49, Duroturn at £50... and Avon at £57.

That's a size where Vrede and Uniroyal are actually fairly expensive - they're normally down there at the Avon price point, not much above the off-brand teflon-concrete-cheese mixes - including Landsail.1 -

Good tyres are obviously fundamental to a cars ‘safe’ handling etc and I just can’t bring myself to fitting anything other than branded quality tyres;...maybe I’m just too ‘old school’.
: Goodyear tyres, made in Germany.
Goodyear's British manufacturing plant closed about 10 years ago I think.Goodyear are often made in Poland. To the exact same spec as everywhere else, same as Michelin are made in East Europe and Asia (to identical specs) Bridgestone (own Firestone) make tyres in Japan, and all over the World, to the exact same spec.My Japanese car was built in England, to the exact same standards as in Japanlike my last Honda was made in Spain to the exact same standards as Japan
I won't touch another Japanese car or 'bike unless the VIN starts with a J after those twoI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I use £20 part worns on car where It's luck of the draw, had a couple of decent Michelins out of the lucky dip box recently but I haven't noticed any radical difference in handling/braking (mind you we are talking about a 'soppy as a sack' Citroen here) between the Michelins or the budget brands etc whereas My bike gets treated to Bridgestone s22,s or If IOM is on next year Bridgestone RS11's unbelievable grip!!!
As someone on this thread said, you get what you pay for.1 -

Because if they're breaking the law on that, are they also breaking the law on properly inspecting them to check for damage...?

As someone on this thread said, you get what you pay for.Fair do’s;..I’m not able to dispute anything btw coz I know absolutely nothing about bikes. I’ve only been a passenger on a bike once.
Decades ago an old mate of mine gave me a lift home from the pub very late one Sunday night on his pride and joy..a Kawasaki 750 2-stroke.
The journey was exactly 1-mile between two sets of traffic lights along a wide, flat 30mph A-road. I was expecting a sedate run at 30’ish mph;...my chauffeur had other ideas though.
When the lights changed he set off at full tilt and carried on accelerating as hard as he could, for as long as he could, until he needed to start braking a mile down the road.
Even though I was well oiled from the pub I was absolutely terrified...no passenger crash helmet in those days;...we must have been doing 100mph by the time he started braking.
I do remember that when he started braking (hard!) we came to a halt fairly quickly so I assume he wasn’t on budget tyres!

Regarding the tyres, he probably does them me at cost or near cost as he's a good mate and we've done each other favours for years. He does of course sell all the top brand new tyres and I must admit there is nothing quite like a brand new tyre, the look of it, the smell etc but 'it's just not worth it on my car, if I put 4 brand new tyres on my Citroen it would double the value of the car lol.
Bike is different matter of course, nobody in their right mind would imo would put budget tyres on a missile!! and although I'm sure people who drive cars like M5's, 911's, RS4's etc can tell the difference in handling between budget and top spec tyres I can't on my car but definitely can on my bike.0 -
