Ugh. Just popping in to say I am totally irritated this afternoon!

I've continued to work hard on being more environmentally friendly and am trying to source people (sales or locally free or Oxfam for clothes) to take away a few bits I don't want any more. Also found a zero waste food shop I tried last week and stocked up at and am also trialling reusable nappies (I know I should have switched earlier and feel incredibly guilty about it, but I just wasn't in a place to do so before with illnesses, hospitals, lack of sleep etc etc).

Anyway, with that in mind DS comes home with a whole bunch of sweets and single use plastic tat. I thought we were done with birthdays, but apparently this is because it was someone's last day. I mean they all leave in a couple of weeks anyway.. any excuse for tat I do not want. That annoyed me and then DH swans off upstairs to do some work call (I thought I might get a quick break). In the meantime DD starts crying for cuddles and DS has spilled the bubble mixture all over the floor.

Managed to contain the situation, then DD starts crying for food, sleep and general hurting gums, I'm trying to get a bee out of our bedroom and a guy knocks on the door (ignoring me when I look stressed and say it isn't a good time) wittering on about trying to sell me drive cleaning for some outrageous amount that I have to agree to immediately - incidentally he is doing a patio on an adjacent garden to ours. Yep.. saw that and the incompetence is farcical.. saw them tipping rubble into the garden earlier and covering it up with a thin layer of proper grit. They also didn't bother to dig up the grass and put a very thin layer of topsoil right on top of it. I don't think so somehow!

    And breathe......

    Hi Jess

Sorry that you're juggling so much. Kids have a knack of spilling things or crying at the most inopportune times.

In terms of the farcical sales guy - today I watched a guy up a very tall, wobbly ladder, painting outside an insurance brokers... You'd think the brokers would know better.... He should have been on a scaffold... or have ladder feet etc etc etc

Having a bit of a nightmare time at the moment. DD had a cold thing from DS, but got worse and worse. I rang 111, who didn’t ring me back in the time they gave and so I just went to A&E. She had broncilitis and had to be tube fed for a few days. We are out now and slowly going back to normal. Was busy in there and short staffed - I felt a bit sorry for the nurses. I did have a bit of a meltdown though when DD got left crying for 35 mins when I needed some help…

Anyway, we are out and everyone is ok. I even retrained DD to sleep in her cot and not on me anymore.

Money saving went out of the window and whilst I was in hospital I decided I’ve been making it unnecessarily difficult for myself. I’m going to relax my goals a bit and even bought a couple of things I’ve been putting off for ages. The goals are still there lurking in the background, but will be concentrating more on the everything else this month rather than the money (it will just tick along in the background whenever I have a bit of spare time) as I think life should be.

DS goes to school this week 😬 and I am happily working through a pile of jobs that have backed up. Been picking lots of garden produce, cutting back the odd thing saving new strawberry plants for next year and finally just getting on with getting rid of the pile of things to go to the tip/charity etc. Rather than doing bits every day, I’m just doing everything so I can then have the time back to spend with DD and DS.

Went on a lovely walk yesterday with DD and DS. DD slept whilst we picked and apples and blackberries. I have been informed by DS that I now have to make a crumble 😂

Sorry to hear DD has been ill, glad she's on the mend. What a nightmare for you all.
Re-prioritising seems sensible, no need to put additional pressure on yourself.
We've been putting off blackberry picking as the weather's been pants here recently.
Crumble sounds lovely, so I'm motivated to go picking again!

Sorry to hear about DD being ill, but glad she's been discharged and that you've trained her to sleep in the cot - that's a big breakthrough!

I think you're right to take the pressure off a bit - we all get to that point sometimes where the focus just becomes too intense and it needs to take a back seat for a while.

Hope DS enjoys school! Is he excited? My Niece is very excited about her first day tomorrow

Weirdly the blackberries in the wild are pretty small round here. The ones in my garden went mad and are enormous!

It’s a bit catch 22 as I want more time with the family etc and to do less, but in order to do that I need to save up some more money to take a career break.  Anyway, will see what happens.. I think I can hit most my targets and be a bit more relaxed.

It’s difficult to say if he’s excited. He’s so laid back about things that he doesn’t seem bothered. When I keep mentioning things I eventually get “I know. You’ve already said that mummy.” I think as soon as he makes friends he’ll be fine. He is excited about learning to read though!

Just spent a fortune already this month! Does anyone else find that they spend nothing for months on end and then loads in one month? Always seems to be the way for me.

Struggling already to remember what I bought, but it wasn’t anything too extravagant:
    - More reusable nappies/wipes. Been building these up slowly over the past month or so. Will definitely save us in the long term, but they are sure expensive upfront!
    - Leggings (mine are more hole than leggings, although I will try to mend them, but I needed another pair for when those are in the wash. I found some second hand online)
    - Couple of glass jars to store pasta etc that I am getting from the zero waste shop. Just didn’t have enough space.
    - Two puzzles (both secondhand), which I will put away for xmas. Got them since I saw them online. Bit of a tradition to make puzzles every year and hoping DS can now help a bit. He loves it when I make puzzles and drives the pieces round in his cars 😂
    - Stock up of DS’s vitamins as he only likes specific ones. Added one extra item for the free delivery that I had already planned as a present for DH for our anniversary. I don’t buy anything else from that shop, so pleased they had just started selling the exact thing I had planned to buy DH!

For some reason I still feel guilty for spending money. I have my eye on some secondhand cheap books, but trying to hold off for Xmas (and then my birthday a couple of months later), as I know I’ll run out of present suggestions to give people! (We generally give out present lists in our house - no wasted presents and people get what they want).

DS loved school and was very laid back about the whole thing. DD is being a complete nightmare and I just can’t get anything done. It took me 5 separate attempts to put a sheet on the bed earlier and yesterday I genuinely struggled to eat and drink. She’s driving me totally nuts and there is little DH can do to help since everything seems to require me. Really hope now she’s better and seems to have fattened up again, she will space out her feeds again so I can get more sleep and she gets over whatever phase she’s going through at the moment… Just need a routine, however rubbish it might be and then I can work round it.

I have also managed to give away some more of my pile of things and it is looking so much better. Once I deal with the clothes there will be very little left! Hopefully I can clear the current messy rooms very soon!

Sorry your little one has been ill again. Must have been scary.

Reprioritising sounds good. I worry that you push yourself hard. I still pendulum swing between over doing and under so have no room to talk

  • Sorry to hear little one has been I'll, but glad she's on the mend.

I also feel guilty spending money as I think I could be saving / OPing mortgage etc. My husband has to remind me that we are doing those things but also need to live for now...I find it easier said than done though.
Current mortgage (1 Jun 2022): £289,501 - originally £351,999 got to love London sized mortgages!
