Sun tan lotion is not cosmetic product.

HI, I would like to thank the CO-OP for bringing this to my attention.  Sunscreen comes with VAT at 20% but they are saying it is a healthcare product and should be VAT free.  Please can you sign the petition?

Alternatively it is a luxury product and therefore should attract VAT.
What do you suggest the government should add VAT to, to recoup the loss in revenue?

It's not a luxury product and it's not a cosmetic.  I couldn't care less what they add VAT to.  You seem more worried about loss of revenue to the exchequer than to the loss of life with people with cancer.

No...it's not a necessary medical product.

No, I am just asking anyone who gets a little 'pet project' demanding taxes be removed from something to at least have the guts to suggest where any loss in revenue should come from .... especially in an era where tax revenue needs to rise significantly.

Sunscreen is not a necessity and there is some evidence that it, in itself, can cause health problems such as allergies, hormone disruption etc. (or are you conveniently ignoring those?).  Individually it is a small part of our day-to-day expenses.

I don't think you'll get many people in Scotland signing up to this ... it's not something we need to buy unless we're going abroad. 🤣
  • Where do we draw the line? What about VAT on sunglasses?
    How about clothes?

No need for sunscreen. Cover up when going out in the sun.

Was that not a different debate?  Greggs (the baker) pasty-gate?  Jaffa cake was HMRC.

The Jaffa Cake issue is fortunately over. Obviously it's a cake. There was a clue in the name all along.
