BG have their own workforce doing meter installations.Browntoa said:Most installation of smart meters is contracted out , BG don't do the installation. Most of the other companies use the same contractors , I think octopus are the only ones employing their own teams .

This a lie, British Gas employ a lot of meter fitters, my ballpark estimate is about 1700. British Gas do fit the smart meters themselves. I wouldn't be suprised if they subcontracted some of the work out.Browntoa said:Most installation of smart meters is contracted out , BG don't do the installation. To the OP, Providing that the stars align and the smet2 meters commission ok, you shouldn't have any problems. You will only read about the negative aspect of smart metering, because people only come on the internet to complain and moan.
Meterman, do you work in the meter industry? As your responses don't appear to make sense.

Yip I have a Smart meter with Tonik Energy since 2018 it allows them to take hourly meter readings. They can then buy the amount of electricity They need given the demand. I can also see daily readings on my account. I am convinced that as a result of having a smart meter I have had little problems with Tonik 🤞- so all good from me0

I just don’t see the positives in their current strategy: no public statement on their billing issue - no response to emails - poor customer service in general. They have gone from a score of 5 out of 5 to 1 out of 5. Why?"Little problems eh?

I had smart meters installed with Hydro and then changed suppliers, strangely enough the meters still work and I still get the readings it's just that my new supplier doesn't get them.0

That just means the IHD that comes with the smart meter works - for now, it may stop at some point, and any costs on it are wrong anyway, as they're for your tariff when you were with Hydro. If your new supplier isn't getting the readings, that means the smart meter is no longer smart, it's now just a standard meter.duncanthedog said:I had smart meters installed with Hydro and then changed suppliers, strangely enough the meters still work and I still get the readings it's just that my new supplier doesn't get them.0 -

Suppliers without smart meters seem to manage OK without running out, so I'm not sure that's a real positive of having a smart meter?

My point was that they still work, they are after all just meters.mac.d said:

I never had them set for the tariff anyway even when with the Hydro, I always have the IHD set for consumption, I can work out the cost at my leisure, The IHD will never stop working, it is connected to the meter remotely and always will be.0
