Wedding

Options
I really hope someone can help!!!
I am due to get married in November. I have just had correspondence from my venue that I am unable to change my date as there is still a reduced number of guests option.
It is not an option for me to window my guests down to 30 from 200!
I have told them I am happy to change to any date that suits them!
Nothing about the day is what we had planned or wanted. I.e no music, no moving about and no guests! And mask wearing.

They are refusing to move or let me cancel and just not helping me at all. Does any one have any concrete advice. I’m so desperate and absolutely gutted!

Thanks

lauren

Did you take out any insurance for the occasion?

  • Yes I did. However from what I’m reading and after speaking to my insurance company. They are making decisions on circumstances .

These are unusual times. The safety of people has to come first.

  • This is why I need to move the day as I have elderly unwell in-laws who live in France and elderly grandparents

I don't think the limit of 30, social distancing, no music etc is likely to change in the near future. Your venue could offer a new date but can't guarantee that the restrictions will be lifted.

You can still get married but have the party much later.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • I would love to get married but my in-laws can’t come from France and my elderly grandparent also can’t make it!

They won’t even offer me a new date...
what I signed up for with this venue is all in 1...
they are forcing me to go ahead with my wedding even though it’s nothing that I want.. as it won’t be safe for certain people and I need to choose between my 70+ family.

  • I'm really sorry that you're not hearing what you want to hear but the venue can only allow you to have the number of guests that the govt will allow them to let you have.

if that is unacceptable to you & the venue won't let you move the date foc or with a fee then you have to decide what you want to do and it would seem your options are limited to cancelling & taking the financial hit.

have you thought about streaming it on line for those that can't attend?
  • I have spoken to my insurance company and I am now going to make a claim I think. I can claim for ‘frustration’ of contract!
I totally get that the government states that I can only have 30 people but this isn’t what I signed up for when I booked my wedding 2 years ago. So therefore they should be providing a service to change dates or refunds.
I am not prepared to loose thousands of pounds when a date could be moved and I am literally willing to do whenever they can!

If they insist you keep to the date booked, they need to change the costings to reflect that you are having a smaller number of people.

If you took out the insurance well before the pandemic started, you'll hopefully be able to claim and recover some lost costs. No doubt this has cost insurance companies a bundle, but that's the name of the game. The venue booked has doubtless lost a lot too, but you'd expect them to be a bit more flexible. Don't suppose they get much repeat busines though! :)
